*Brad pitt in snatch voice* Dya like tags?

OT I think sometimes you are a little oversensitive, however adding offensive tags to someone elses thread should be a no no IMO, as I think it is akin to personal abuse and should be treated as such!

Nothing to do with tags as such but do you have any idea why the result was "all goes t1ts up" ?

The forum mods (most of whom are admins) can remove them and afaik can see who the tagger was.

Way to pimp your event dude..:D

Ok fair enough about reporting the tags but let me make one thing clear .... you do not own that or any thread. Once you start a thread it belongs to everyone.

why not just report it to a moderator. Why the need to create ANOTHER feedback thread. Stop acting like a drama queen please and stop being so oversensitive.

why not just report it to a moderator? because I didn't know I could!

OK point taken, but I think the mods should keep an eye out on tags added to threads. I know that would take up more of thier time, but we have the function of reporting offensive posts, why not tags?

Yes I am sometimes oversensitive, but if this happened to you, would you not be the same?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 14,330 ✭✭✭✭Amz

I doubt most people even looked at the tags, now people are all paying attention to the ones on "your" thread. Expect some gems on this one too I'd imagine.

There is no way to stop the tagging without disabling it accross the entire site. The tags can be removed manually, and the thread closed to prevent more tags being added.

I do not believe for a moment that the comments are because you are from the UK, there are many well know posters from the UK. I think its more likey as a result of you putting yourself out there trying to organise events etc, you put your head above the crowd and are an easy target, dont take it personally.

If you react to the tags you let those who left the tags win.

DJ - you got really depressed after the last karoke and even spoke of leaving boards forever. Are you sure you want to do this?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,756 ✭✭✭Jules

    Fuck it.....

Dj Spider, the reason, i think why, tags have been added and that some people "take offense" to you it that you try way too hard. The last event you had had how many threads in the events forum. And then you ended up having a go at people for no reason. Also posting those pics up were not a good idea, also you go on about your girlfriend but tbh you sometimes come across as extremely flirtly and tbth it can be a very off putting, kind of sleezy in a way. Now im sure your a nice guy but stop trying so hard.

People may give out to me But its my opinion.

I've been banned from soccer for adding the tag 'Boards.ie ****' to a thread. In most cases I could understand how this would be interpreted. But it was a joke, perhaps a foolish one, about this thread started in AH, that I thought most people would get, and I am a regular poster in the soccer forum, so I doubt anyone thought I was coming in and making a personal attack on the forum.

Anyone think a one month ban is harsh for that considering most people pay no attention to tags, and the fact that alot of tags seem to be light-hearted?

Was just trying to gauge opinions before I started a thread, as they often seem to end up being an 'us vs. them', and I don't want to create any bad feelings when I go back to the forum.

starting a thread bout it is hardly gonna create good feeling.

starting a thread bout it is hardly gonna create good feeling.

Hence why I wanted to see what others thought before I started a thread. If I felt others thought the ban was harsh, then I would appeal it and start a thread. If not, I don't want to start a thread that will in all likelihood not see my ban removed, but only serve as me having a pop at the mods decision.

Well I replied to the mod with a link to the thread, but was told that they weren't buying for one minute that it was a joke and not meant to antagonise.

Sounds harsh to be honest. Id start a feedback thread if i were you. good chance of getting it overturned,or lowered to a week anyway

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 17,247 ✭✭✭✭6th

Its a trap! Mods shouldnt have to take the time for you to explain your jokes. You know you take a risk when you have a bit of craic in a forum like soccer. If you want to appeal it I'd say Pm the mods. Take pvt.jokers advice and expect it to get you the reation you already know you'll get.

Pm mod, if that doesnt work go to HelpDesk.

DJ, I really don't think the people not turning up at your other night was personal. True, if someone more "well established" and well known on Boards (e.g. through IRC - whatever the hell that is!) hosted a night, more people might turn up - but that's simply because more people know them.

And anyone who judges someone on the basis of them coming from the UK, is a muppet - and most people on Boards, to be fair, are not muppets (well not muppets to that extent anyway :)). That said, maybe there is a bit of a cultural divide - we Irish can be boorish with an extremely localised sense of humour, so I wouldn't blame someone who's English (or whatever) if they felt a bit left out - in fact I've seen it being the case for other English people I know. But god, no way is it personal.

aw i feel sorry for spider.
the tags are a bit much, but ya gotta just ignore it man. internet serious business etc
good luck with the whole charity dealy

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 37,214 ✭✭✭✭Dudess

Yeah, those tags are crap for you if they're directed at you and now you're probably feeling frustrated that they're being left there, but that's not out of indifference - it's more a way of telling you to ignore them.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 1,958 ✭✭✭DJ_Spider

OK I will cancel the Komedy Karaoke night. (actually that was the perfect name for it!!!) Maybe have it with the halloween beers or the best idea would be do the same as last year for the Xmas beers. (I promise not to dress like a fairy this time!) If we can get the room at the Met Bar it is a bit cooler so people might enjoy it more.

All in all, seeing as it is the holiday season and there have been a firsr few beers recently, I should have known it wouldn't get much support. I would ask the mods to close the thread in events, thanks. Oh and I have even had a good laugh at all this! :D

I'll be honest... I made the tag about 6th being a watermelon...

This has nothing to do with your nationality, DJ. To the credit of this site, sectarianism/racism has no place here. I had hoped you would have picked up on that by now.

It has much more to do with one or two individuals who think they are much funnier then they are, and find the prospect of throwing an in joke about hilarious.

The decision has been made to let the tags (all tags indeed) stand.
    Vexorg wrote:

This is the crux of the matter basically. Idiocy should be ignored when one can do nothing about it.

No matter how much good you try to do (whatever the successes or failures of the last event-it raised a bloody nice chunk of dosh, which is more than some of the more vocal cacklers have done), there will always be those who jump on some self propogating meme in order to have a chuckle, be it in posts, podcasts, or over a pint in the pub.

Those who indulge in this hyena like behaviour would do better to look past the awkward actions of a user, to favour the good that they do, or hell, maybe even drop them a diplomatic PM and nudge them in the right direction.

In relation to the event itself, it would be better by far to incorporate it into the latter part of a beers, when people are drunk and ready to put their hands in their pockets.

    IMO.
