Hello Emerald Lass. It seems that every tesco and dunnes seem to stock different alternatives, which is weird. Where do you live, that might make it easier for us to tell you where to get what. Generally it is just supermakets plus health food shops which will randomly have a certain range to choose from. I get Linda mcCartney sausage rolls for E1.65 here, yum. You can also get fake ham in health food shops. I also like Fry's hotdogs more than tescos but they are more expensive. Good luck with the hunt. :)

    Hi Tara,

heading home to Dublin for a week this weekend, and then off to Uk for a few days. Betweent eh two I am hoping to find some nice veggie stuff - I know its mostly frozen, but I'm sure I'll manage something.

Any suggestions where to buy nice grub in Dublin city centre or Northside? My OH has asked me to bring veggie rashers and ham if can find it so he can find out what it tastes like!

And anyone with suggestions for the UK please let me know? I know Asda aren't bad - when I lived there thats where I shopped but last time I went to an Asda in Birmingham they had shag all except meatballs (which were very nice I might add!)

    all help greatly appreciated!

Emerald, I get mine mostly from health food shop fridges, but I agree, it seems harder to get stuff! And don't get me started on the selection in the UK compared to us ::sobs her eyes out::

I am madly in love with Quorn deli sliced turkey, sooo tasty, if I go to England I swear I have a whole meal of it out of the packet(s), disgusting I know :D

Love Linda McCartney sausage rolls, none of those weird "bits" you get in real ones. Love Linda McCartney fajita strips, v. quick and tasty in a tortilla with some veg and sauce. Quorn mince done up as chilli is pretty good, doesn't quite work for me in bolognase. Tesco hotdogs are pretty nice too.

Yum, want some fake meat now :)

for dublin city - go to nourish on Wicklow Street (next to cornucopia). There are other nourishs but this one is the only one with frozen food (the rest all have some fridge food, I think). Their stock depends on the day really. http://www.nourish.ie/?ncat=22

The heath store also have a good range of frozen/fridge foods, so have a look at which are closest. http://www.thehealthstore.ie/page.php?intPageID=4
I've been the their stillorgan, dundrum, bray and blackrock braches and of that lot i'd say Blackrock was largest with the best selection.

If in the future you ever venture to Galway, I highly recommend the Evergreen stores on the Mainguard Street in town and beside tesco; the latter has a very very large freezer and fridge section. http://www.evergreen.ie/ContactUs.aspx I also see from their website that they now to orders from their website...

For all of the above, I would highly recommend ringing them and asking about their stock or get things put aside to avoid disappointment. Once you know which brands you like, in the future you could ring them a week or two before you visit so that they can get the specific stock in for you. I'd say that you have enough time now if you want to ring any and make sure they know you want to come and purchase such and such.

The Redwood rashers can be kept in the fridge so I recommend them. http://www.goodnessdirect.co.uk/cgi-local/frameset/detail/408180_Redwood_Vegetarian_Streaky_Rashers_115g.html . Linda mc cartney sausage rolls are nice if you can locate them (but need to be kept frozen). I suppose ask the opinions of the staff members for advice on the products.

The ham... I'm not so sure about. There are some types of sandwich ham in the fridges but the stock can vary depending on the day. like this i suppose http://www.goodnessdirect.co.uk/cgi-local/frameset/detail/408102_Redwood_Cheatin__Ham_100g.html

There is a selection of the Redwood foods here for you to get an idea. Most health food stores have some of the items on this list in stock: http://www.goodnessdirect.co.uk/cgi-local/frameset/brand/REDW.html

good luck with your search :)

Oh I forgot linda mccartney sausage rolls, way nicer than real ones.
These are great. And i've never been a sausage roll fan. They don't look great if you eat the pastry first though. I've seen them in the health shop in George's Street Arcade.

I middle east has some great options for vegetarians. Hummus is one of my personal favorites. Here are some receipts:

    http://allrecipes.com//Recipes/appetizers-and-snacks/dips-and-spreads/hummus/Main.aspx

The simplest receipts are the best. However, I always find that just getting the right ingredients is hard.

Not a big fan of meat alternatives myself, never bother with them...except!

You can get these absolute delicious tofu wieners in some health food shops (Nourish especially)...guh, can't remember their name.

Tesco Meat Free flame grilled quarter pounders. Also Tesco Meat Free Frankfurters. Unfortunately I can't find either of these in Tesco anymore. Quorn burgers taste like vomit compared to the Tesco burgers.

My favourite that I can actually still find available is Quorn gruyere cheese escalopes. Cauldron sausages are nice too.

Yeah they used to have the best frankfurters, and my sister and her boyfriend were addicted to their veggie burgers which were very good.

While I do agree that Quorn burgers are nowhere nearly as good as Tesco's were, I love their southern style burgers. :)
