    Hey guys,

My cousin and myself are setting up an airsoft site in Sligo. We own the land, 4.2 acres of which will be set aside for the playing field.

10 minute drive from Sligo town centre, Heavy bushland, lots of stone walls, hills, long grass, short grass, stones, concealed passage ways.

It will be setup for advance and secure, king of the hill alamo, capture the flag and, CQB.

Its currently early days but we'd like to gauge interest plus feedback on suggestions for what you'd like to see at an airsoft site.

The land is a little different but will make for some interesting games.

Further to the pm ... sounds great; definitely interested as it sounds better than sites we have been looking at. Will drag along 2-3 others too.

p.s. can always give a lift to townies if needed.

Hey nice to hear about a new site!

One of my friends (he doesn't believe in boards!) is from the town and he'll be up for it regularly, may even manager to drag a couple of his mates (and myself) out to you too!

this is going to burst your bubble, the grossley politically incorrect image on the bebo site directly threatens the sport of airsoft and should be removed this is coming form some one who runs a site , the image in question is political the link to this page should be removed or locked

I have asked by cousin to remove it from the bebo page and, I have removed the link in the mean time.

A PM would have sufficed and I dont appreciate the suggestion of locking the thread, leave that up to the mods please.

    now back on topic.

Thank you to the people who have shown an interest thus far. We'll keep you all informed how everything goes.

AFAIK that particular site fell through. Alternative sites in the locale are being inspected with the help of a certain state organisation who will remain nameless for the moment.

On my end i'm still waiting on insurance quotes. Once I get those (if they're acceptable) we should have no problem getting a permit for the site.

I'd suggest we form a club (to cover the insurance costs as a group) and play on the one site; we can still split into individual teams if needed.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 705 ✭✭✭-Al-

there will be an age limit (not decided yet, will be determined by the age range of the people we talk to) and no rentals as of yet but tha may change in the future.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 162 ✭✭SOLID_SNAKE!

yeah but lets say hypitheticly(probably mispelled) i have something over 328fps lets say 455fps will i still be able to use it, or what if i change out for some heavy 0.20g or 0.35g's to bring it down

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,656 ✭✭✭deepimpact

    See here

    1 Joule is 100m/s (approx 328 fps) with a 0.2g bb.
Higher weight, reduced velocity, but must still equate to one joule.

455fps w/ 0.2g bb is over the limit and requires a licence.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,261 ✭✭✭Puding

thats why i used 1j to denote the limit as that is the legal limit, normaly given as under 328fps with .2g bb
455fps w/ 0.2g bb is over the limit and requires a licence.
would be classed as a firearms you would not be able to get a license anyway

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 162 ✭✭SOLID_SNAKE!

yep if i ever got something that powerful it'd be hard to bring down, besides thats a ridiculus fps for skirmishes

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 954 ✭✭✭MacAonghusa

As regards our own team (S.S.A.G for now), for anyone who plays with us I would say the following:

Age limit: no enforced age limit but under a certain age would need to be accompanied by an adult etc. (need to check insurance implications etc)

Gear rental: we would rent *some* basic equipment (inc. guns) and would put that money towards the insurance costs i.e. no profit

    Uniform: whatever's comfortable.

Muzzle velocity: <1J. Your responsibility to ensure guns are under the legal limit.

Protective gear: Minimum - goggles with all round seal.

Ammo: we would need to insist on biodegradable bbs if we end up playing where we plan to.

I would say no, but again I don't no yet what the insurance implications, if any, are.

you will need to have access to a chrono and test even if its just to cover yourselves for the insurance

Good to know, thanks. Can be easily arranged/bought though I can imagine it's a fairly grey area here (i.e. re calibration or certification of chrono device).

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,261 ✭✭✭Puding

its not as much of an issue as you would thing :) all versions i have need no set up and remain accurate even after a year + of use

i worked as a calibration and instrumentation specialist for a while
the distance between the measuring fields would have to be verified and then the accuracy of the timing system evaluated

i reckon my madbull is good to +/- 5% and get all my gear as close to 95ms-1 as i can

I was thinking that if a chrono is required to cover yourself then perhaps annual calibration of the device will be required otherwise how else do you know the device is accurate.

hypotetically, you wont be playing at our site with it :D

But theres no uniform requirments, you want to wear shorts a bright coloured t-shirt be my guest.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 162 ✭✭SOLID_SNAKE!

right anyway what would be the normal age limit for skirmishing and stuff
more to the point is 16 too young
