I know of someone living in London who called their daughter Fianna. Kind of an Uachtar reoite, Ultan, Fionn type baby name I suppose.

Is that actually how it is spelt or is that how they pronounce it? I know someone who's name is Fiona but it's pronounced like Fianna.

'Blade laser' does have a fetching, spaceship-hero ring to it, I must admit.

    Keeundra
Cymbre (kind of pretty, this name, but unusual)

Jack can be strange too. I knew a guy whose first name was Jack, however the problem lay with his family name which was Russell ie Jack Russell

What did Cher name her first child? Moon (something)? Now that they are grown up, I wonder if they do it a lot?

The worst name I ever heard was Fanny!

In France she introduced herself and said Je m'appelle Fanny! I nearly splutered on my tea. I asked her 3 times to pronounce and spell it. I was in shock:eek:

Who would call their child Fanny? My mother explained it was a dated name deriving from Stephanie (a name I liked until I heard fanny)!

French people were soooo shocked when I told them what it means to us. The cultural differences between France and Ireland never seemed so great!

My friend Fanny was going to Dublin to assist in French lessons. I advised her strongly to use her full name Stephanie.

Imagine standing up in a rough city school and declaring your name is fanny.:D
She would be torn to shreads by Dublin students!

Famous Five books featured Aunt Fanny. Needless to say she was a bit of an oul cnut in them.

Probably should have gone the whole hog and called her husband Dick..

On-topic, i think Rod is a cool name at shouldn't be on the list. At least most these kids will get used to sexual in-ur-endo at an early age.

Was told about this girl whose parents decided on an old Irish name for her, Sunadhbha(don't think that's exactly how you spell it but it's pronounced son-of-a). Sounded pretty nice then but unfortunately the guy she married had the surname Hoare so she became sunadhbha Hoare!! Wouldn't have believed it only I heard the story from two totally unconnected people!!

Another strange one, my boss named his son Bertie Ramesus (has an obsession with Egypt)
