    Yo,
Don't usually venture here, but got a question from the mother.

She's spent €60 in BT on stuff called bare minerals that cost $60, or €40 in the States.

So the question is: can she buy "bare minerals" cheaper than in BT's?

Had the same thing - my mother looked for it for her b-day she say it on some of the advetisedment channels on tv, and I got it in BT for €70 for the start-up pack which was only for the 2 tiny 2g pots of the foundation and 1 pot 2g of mineral veil but you do get the brushes with it. I just ordered her some there from an ebay store in the UK called SASi and it cost €43 for a large pot 9g of foundation and an XL pot of the mineral veil 12g including postage so thats not bad value and I'd imagine that will last her the year. Any of the sites from the states don't seems to deliver to Ireland but if you come up with any post them here!!:D

Yeah I totally recommend eBay for them. I use this stuff, got it in New York last year, so I buy the stuff from eBay now.

On a sad note, I lost my Kabuki Brush the other day :( So I'm goin to buy a new one on eBay!

    Well I love it.

I was never a fan of wearing big heavy orange make-up as I'm quite pale. I found a No.7 liquid foundation that I quite liked but it does not even compare to the Bare Minerals.

It just feels so light on my skin, I don't feel like I'm clogging my pores, but it gives great coverage. It just smoothes over everything! I would have quite clear skin anyway, but I could really see a difference when I used this stuff. I just looked really 'fresh'! Actually, someone referred to it as "peaches and cream".

I think it suits more as a 'day' foundation because it's so light. I haven't tried it out by itself on a long sweaty night of partying, so I don't know how well it would hold out, but for nights out, I put on my liquid foundation and put some Bare Minerals on top to balance and matt it out a bit.

One bit of advice though; make sure you get a Kabuki Brush with it. It's a stumpy little make-up brush but makes a world of difference when applying the mineral make-up. They sell another brush (called a Flawless something-or-other) but it doesn't do the make-up any justice at all.

I don't know if maybe BT2 are doing any sample applications for customers in store? That might be a good idea, then you could see how you felt with it on your skin for the day without buying it immediately.

There's another one, Everyday Minerals, that I sometimes use, its cheaper and just as good, plus they do nice little sample kits.

Of course, I ordered all the wrong colours in the sample kit, but I eventually got it right. Many may debate this.

Quick question: noticed alot of the products on http://stores.ebay.ie/SASi-Cosmetics-and-Accessories weren't "Bare Minerals", but "Bare Escentuals", and the mother was wondering is it the same brand, just a different product, or a cheap knock off of "Bare Minerals"?

Where in NY did you get it, and where on eBay do you get it?

Put in a google search and it looks like BareEscentuals is the company name and BareMinerals is the name of the product.

Yes Bare Escentuals is the make-up brand that make BareMinerals. They do loads of "normal" make-up stuff too.

You can get them all in Sephora stores in New York, which are big cosmetics stores spread all over Manhatten (they do stuff like Benefit too, and soooo cheap compared to here!)

On eBay, like Redpunto said, the Tutti Frutti shop is a good one. If you type in the BareMinerals into the search engine on eBay you'll see that a lot of stuff comes from her.

One of my friends got it recently and it looks fab on her. How good is the coverage? Heading to the US soon...

Good coverage but it's not heavy. I could go on about how much I love it but everyone is different. I don't like the thought of people wastin money on something that they dont like just cause someone else said it was good. If you can, maybe even pop in BT2 and get one of the girls there to try a bit on you so you can see what you think. In New York if the Sephora shop is quiet enough they might show you there too.

But I love it, and it takes me 30 seconds to put it on in the morning :) It's soooo easy. You tip some of the powder into the lid, swirl your Kabuki brush in it for a moment, tap the excess powder back into the pot, and just glide the brush over your face in circular motions. Simple!

If you want extra coverage, you can get a concealer brush and use just a bit more powder of those areas. I think Bare Escentuals (the main make-up range) do concealers but I can't quite remember if Bare Minerals actually have a seperate concealer themselves.

Just done a bit of searching on beaut.ie and there are two beauty salons in Dublin that sell it - Harmonie in Ranelagh (67a Main Street) and Adore on Oliver Plunkett Street (wherever that is, I dunno?).

    http://http://beaut.ie/blog/?p=4734

Could try there and see how much it costs?

Or (I think it's a bit late now) if in Galway, try this place where you can get a free makeover!

Oliver Plunkett Street is in Cork. I got the starter kit in Sephora in NYC recently for $60 and there was a dvd which shows you exactly how to use all the products you get. Happy enough with it so far, i don't use too much of it as am v pale, good coverage though.

The big makeup brands do similar products now - Maybelline, Covergirl, Avon. Not sure if avail. in Ireland though?

Everyday Minerals do a free sample kit (just pay a few quid for postage). It would be worth getting to see if mineral makeup is for you before shelling out for the 'spensive stuff. There's a ton of other mineral makeup stores too that are way cheaper than Bare Minerals but do the same thing.

I use Maybelline Pure Liquid Mineral foundation, and find it very good, they have a powder version of it too, it's very light to use.

I read somehwere that theres an ingredient in bare minerals that can make your skin break out if your prone to blemishes? has this happened to any of ye since using it?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 486 ✭✭nesbitt

I am a total fan of Bare Minerals. I started out getting the starter pack for fair skin in BT2 last summer...

I now purchase from QVC www.qvc.ie (money back guarantee, delivery excellent, totally great customer service) I can get 9g pot of the foundation including a brush for 40euro versus 3g pot of the foundation only for 30euro from BT2.

It is vital to use best brushes to achieve natural flawless look. I use the Mac 181 first to apply the foundation and Mac 187 to apply the 'warmth' as a slight lift to my skin tone and the a separate Mac 187 to apply the final Mineral Veil to set and matt... Expensive brushes but wash them and look after them and they will last years... Easy:)
