Music to fall asleep to...any ideas?

Im compiling a playlist of really chilled out songs, the type of music that might put me to sleep (in a good way of course!).....so if any of you know some songs of the mellow, laid back variety if you could post them here that would be really cool...I'm thinkin soft whispery vocals, gently played acoustic guitar/piano, that sort of vibe....
At the moment I have Sigur Ros, Kings Of Convenience and Iron & Wine in my collection so if anybody 'chills out' to similar artists/songs/albums let me know! :)

Grizzly Bear (youtube "grizzly bear bathroom paris", it's shift, such a beautiful song), The Album Leaf (try Twenty Two Fourteen)... can't help you any more right now, I'm better at 'music to wake people up with' :p

    Royksopp Melody AM
    Duke Ellington & Orchestra live
    Boards Of Canada Campfire headphase
    Lemon Jelly Lost Horizons

these are some of the albums that have sent me to the land of Zs in times gone by, helps if you're stoned but sure they'll work anyway without.

Two good suggestions, yevveh. The Light by The Album Leaf is also excellent.

A few off the top of my head:

A Coral Room by Kate bush.

Bluemthal by Ulrich Schnauss (excuse the crappy sound quality)

I would recommend the album Music for Airports by Brian Eno. Very simple and minimalist stuff that will let you slip off gently to sleep. And nearly anything by Sigur Ros, especially their () album

Kings of Convience. Very very chilled out indie acoustic.

Nick Drake really works for me. Also Bon Iver, and Aphex Twin's selected ambient works.

The Knife - the Silent Shout album. It's what I fall asleep to most nights and I never get sick of it. Their other albums are brilliant too but I like Silent Shout to chill out too.

    I second Nick Drake.
David Gray as cheesy as he is nowadays is perfect too. And Jack Johnson too. Say what you like about them both, they really have a lovely calming effect on me.

Individual songs I have on my own playlist are:

Radiohead - Fake plastic trees (live in tibet). Fades in and out, so it's perfect.
She & Him - You Really Got A Hold on Me. Ukuele and two voices only.
Air and Damon Albarn - Black Book. Lovely stuff this.
The Beatles - For No One
Jens Lekman - Call Me Al. It's a cover. Lovely and soft.
Ladysmith Black Mombazo - Nomathemba - African vocal group. Droning and beautiful

I used to fall asleep to Radiohead's 'Kid A' album around about the time it was released. I remember one particular incident whereby I fell asleep while listening to it with earphones in, but I was awoken with a jump by the beginning of 'Motion Picture Soundtrack' :pac:

Mogwai - Zidane:A 21st Century Portrait, Mr Beast (certain songs) and Happy Songs for Happy People.

    The Knife - The Knife

    Anything by Sigur Ros

Might even throw in a bit of Kraftwerk as well.

    Unkle - Psyence Fiction

LemonJelly - Lemonjelly.ky and Lost Horizons

    Absolutely.

Been drifting off to And Their Refinement... and The Tired Sound Of... a lot recently. Love Piano Aquieu, Mulholland and Don't Bother They're Here.

OP, also try Cody by Mogwai, the version off the Goverment Commissions album if you can. Also a lot of Loveless by MBV sets me off, just make sure you're sleeping before Soon or you'll be up dancing.

Check out Fennesz too, especially the album Endless Summer.

Oh. And Mazzy Star. Especially the track 'Into Dust'.

I need them to be pretty much beatless or at least very subtle beats. I actually can't go to sleep now without an ambient album for a while first. Some of my favourites...

    Biosphere - Substrata / Shenzou
    http://www.discogs.com/release/67037
    http://www.discogs.com/release/40436

Brian Eno - Any of the Ambient series
    http://www.discogs.com/release/1106034
    http://www.discogs.com/release/332666
    http://www.discogs.com/release/1174456

    Pan American - Quiet City
    http://www.discogs.com/release/290642

    Tuu - One Thousand Years
    http://www.discogs.com/release/163902

    Tetsu Inoue - Ambient Otaku
    http://www.discogs.com/release/99901

And lots more on the same label as above release (Ambient World) -

    To name a few!

    Gas - Nah Und Fern

Sigur Rós has to be the worst music to fall asleep listening to. I always awake mid-album.

I'd definitely say Mogwai- Happy Songs for Happy People
God is an Astronaut- Far From Refuge
    Caspian- The Four Trees
    This Will Destroy You- S/T

    Non post-rock stuff:
The Twilight Sad- Fourteen Autumns and Thirteen Winters
    Death Cab for Cutie- Plans
    The Cure- Disintegration
Belle & Sebastian- The Boy With The Arab Strap
    Love- Forever Changes
    Portishead- Third
    Cat Power- The Greatest
Joan as a Policewoman- Real Life
Hope of The States- Lost Riots (slightly post-rock also)
    Air- Moon Safari
The Flaming Lips- Yoshimi Battles The Pink Robots

I find Guillemots dead boring, but that Windowpane album is perfect to get you to sleep, such is it's dullness, yet upbeat and warm nature.

I fell asleep listening to Test Icicles- For Screening Purposes Only the other night.
No mean feat. I must have had a few sleeping pills before hand.

The Knife are great - brother and sister duo from Sweden. José Gonzalez did a cover of Heartbeats which you might be familiar with as it was on that Sony HDTV ad with all the bouncy balls. They're very good friends. Karin from The Knife is also featured on one of the Royksopps's tracks, "What Else Is There?"

Explosions in the Sky, fantastic band. They'll make chilling out feel like you should be thinking about life, love and everthing in between.

Ah yeah now that rings a bell, love Jose Gonzales first CD didnt realise that song was a cover version....anybody like that band Talk Talk? Not their early 80s new romantic stuff, their later chill-out ambient stuff is really good....

Talk Talk are excellent, the two later albums being Spirit of Eden and Laughing Stock - amazing albums.

Are you mad man!!?? 'Magic Doors' starts with the sound of a high pitched test signal for one!!!

Great album, but not relaxing by any means :)

I'd suggest either of David Kitt's first two albums....really nice to listen to in bed.

I Went To Sleep by the Beach Boys is a beautifully chilled piece of music plus it ties in with the whole sleeping theme!

Yeah Jose Gonzalez is good for night time.
Sift through DJ Shadow albums to find chilled out.
Also been listening to Fink lately, chilled acoustic similar to Jose. He's playing EP too.

    Ventill/Poki by Strafaenn Hakon
    Neroli by Brian Eno
The first half of The Sea and the Bells album by Rachel's

Twenty Two Fourteen by the Album Leaf
    Pauvre Simon by Sylvain Chauveau

Hanne Hukkelberg has a sound that is good both to fall asleep and wake up to.

    Harold Budd

agree with whoever said DJ Shadow. nice metronomic tempos really good to chill you out.

Bach is a favourite of mine for when I'm in bed. not because I want to fall asleep tho.
