Recently started running - slight knee pain

Hey guys. First post in the Fitness forum. I'm new to this world so be gentle with me!

I've started a program to get fit as outlined here and I'm currently starting week 3. I've been doing other physical activity recently (such as surfing and swimming) but I'm new to running and I'm getting some slight knee discomfort (pain is a bit too severe a word...) I haven't been out running in 3 days now and its mostly gone, but I would prefer to be cautious. Any tips on how I can avoid this, whether I should stop running if it persists? Is it normal for someone new to running? etc.

    Thanks guys.

New rules mean we can't diagnose in here :)

Tbh pain in the shins tends to be the main thing for new runners.

My advise: Get proper running shoes as in asics, saucony, Mizzoni not a cheap pair of nikes.

    Run on soft surfaces.

See if the problem persists/get worse and if so it's a trip to the doctor/ sports physio if you want it sorted.

If you're a particularly heavy bloke and running on hard surfaces with crap shoes then you could be giving your knees a hammering.

    No :p

Unfortunately we have to be super-extra cautious whenever the word 'pain' is involved, it could be something benign like discomfort from wearing the wrong trainers or it could be something more sinister that requires medical attention.

It's a Doc and lock for this one I'm 'fraid :o
