Sweaty at the gym?

    Heya all

I've been going to the gym recently and find that I get incredibly sweaty while there. I'm such a Sweaty Betty;) Do some just sweat more than others? I suppose I'm just looking for reassurance.

I mean my t-shirt at the front and back is soaked and my tackie bottoms get covered in sweat patches. I know that sweat means you are working so perhaps I am noticing it in myself too much. I will be going three times a week. Heres my program: (I'm female)

8 minutes bicycle at level 2 for warmup (after walking to gym from bus stop). The last 30 seconds of this I treat as a sprint. I aim to keep the RPM over 100.

    Then the weight machines:
Leg press at 40 doing it 10x2
    Leg extension 30 ""
    Leg curl 40

30 second rest between each one.

Step machine 20 min level 5, again last 30 sec as fast as humanely possible.

Then exercises on the mat: abdonamen (sp?) curl 10x2
One for core strength where you hold out your diagonal leg and arm, hold for count of 5, 5x2
    Shoulder bridge 10x2

I have an old lwr back injury and have physio exercises to help improve it.

Then stretching. I've started to do (in my last two visits) 5 minutes rowing as I want to do something for my arms.

Carrot if you get this far!

    Carrot plz!

    What age are you?

Nothing wrong with sweating. Nothing at all! I literally drip sweat.

Early twenties, I may have water retention as I tend to bloat so I am taking 'HBI Water Balance' supplement.

I drink plenty of water as my bottle is my clutch!

There's nothing wrong with you. If you sweat excessively during normal activities you can worry about over active sweat glands or some ****e like that. It's a sign that you're working hard, there's plenty of women in gyms who don't sweat a drop, they'd probably have to run to the nearest mirror if they did to ensure they've still got a full face of make up.

The recent weather has me sweating like mad all of a sudden.

I would ditch the weight machines, and stick to freeweights (dumbbells & barbells) have a read of this site for some ideas & tips.
    www.exrx.net

If you do weights before the cardio you have more energy so can lift more. Also lifting will use up the glycogen in your muscles, so when you do cardio afterwards you should be more likely to burn some fat off. While if you did cardio first the glycogen in the muscles will be used up then. Lifting to your fullest at the start will stimulate the muscles a lot more and is great for burning fat.

    Yeh carrot please,

You're working hard. I would suggest grabbing a running top, there are a few shops floating around depending on where you are, you dont need any fancy stuff like the nike drifit,

Just something that is not designed to hold in sweat, cotton does it so most t-shirts will do it. Well worth looking at I think, just makes it a bit more comfortable

I'm the same - there is a strange sense of satisfaction out of it I find! I *think* that I've completed a harder workout :D

perfectly normal, most likely, but maybe wear shorts instead of trackies, and always, always bring a towel and wipe down benches and equipment after use!!

A sweaty chick in the gym is far sexier than some caked in make up bimbo never get that like!

I pump sweat when training. It's kinda gross. I've a mate who sweats so much he actually brings two shirts to the gym to train in cos he hates it.

What's grosser is going for a long outdoor run/cycle and coming back with solidified salt all over you from the sweat :)

Why is sweat seen as disgusting? I have no problem with other people's sweat (You wouldn't want to have one in my game) and I certainly have no problem with my own.

I think others in this topic are right- you're sweating when there are a lot of people who worry about ruining their hair in the gym. Keep on keeping on.

It's when you stop sweating that you're in trouble.
(According to Dr Hunter S. Thompson)

I sweat like mad in the gym. However I think a lot of the problem is that the air con in TF in Sandyford in a farce. There is no air circulating around the gym and its actually got to a point that i would consider unhealthy and dangerous.

No, I've seen them from going to the gym myself, working in gyms and from being in college with girls like that.

I sweat like a fucker in the gym too, but, it doesn't bother me.

I go there to lift/train/workout and not to try look good.

As long as i'm not interfering with other peoples workouts by having a severe bang of BO off me and take a minute to wipe down the machines once i'm done, then i've nothing to worry about.

I'd rather be the person leaving pumping sweat than the person who didn't break a sweat at all.

But just because you're not sweating in the gym does not mean that you're not working hard...

I presume the amount you sweat differs from person to person and there is no direct correlation between amount of sweat and amount of effort.

My other half barely breaks a sweat and comes out of the gym smelling of roses, even after a tough session.

I, on the other hands, am a sweaty hog and usually leave a puddle when squatting or deadlifting, especially if this is just after a run.

If I run out doors I come back with flies and bugs stuck to my sweaty face like a car windscreen!

    Because sweating includes urea.

Your piss is water, salts and urea.So its hard to not see why its disgusting. You were probably better off without knowing this even.

or grossest is swimming in the sea first for the base layer of salt, then a long cycle to top up and finish off with a run to make the salt streaks solidify into thick layers!

OP, I sweat a lot in the gym too so it's perfectly normal. Remember that it is perfectly normal so don't try to stop it but some things that help make it less noticiable

-wear technical gear - TK maxx is a good place to get womens kit cheaply. Different brands have different trademarks for their breathable kit, check the tags

-don't spray deo before entering the gym. I see so many women putting on anit-perspirant before hitting the gym? Why oh why? Same with makeup, don't add anything that will cover your sweat glands.

    - shorts and sleeveless tops, It is amazing the difference wearing a strappy top makes to your comfort. Expose as much skin as you are comfortable with because your skin cools much more efficiently when it is exposed. It was literally a revelation when I swaps my short sleeved teashirt for a tank top style.

Apart from these, enjoy the sweat, and love the shower afterwards!

I'd be worried if you didn't sweat!!!

I'm surprised at the number of people who exercise in cotton t-shirts and either trakkie dacks or 3/4 pants. There are plenty of not so expensive coolmax type tops around that wick sweat away and leave you far more comfortable. Use a towel too - even though our gym has finally put up signs saying you have to carry a towel and wipe down equipment, most don't. Gym I used to go to had cloths and special spray for machines.

Having done triathlons, someone coined the phrase 'how's the salinity' when seeing others finish a race in black gear with all the white sweat marks. On a hot summer day it was standard to see it.

Oh and wash your exercise gear regularly - nothing is worse than second hand sweat before you start working out! (especially for others!)

    Lol. Head. Ar5e. Remove.

I'm guessing you haven't read Malteaser's log or seen any of her videos?

Some people just don't sweat while their training (with weights). In my experience these people are girls and lighter guys. And of course when you've a light girl, this effect is compounded.

    Mmmmmmm hot sweaty girls.

i sweat like a motherfo when at the gym, but i usually wear breathable teeshirts, which although soaked dont show.

and good work ur obviously kicking ass in the gym

IM regularly training in temps 25-30 + and sweat like a demon as you would expect, have to drink so much more than I ever did at home.

After a session my Tshirt is a pure mass of sweat. Im quite curious as to how much my relative fitness has improved over training in that pussy sh1t that I hear we are getting at home at the minute....

ohhhh its 21 degs !! :D its soooo HOT !

    I think the three of us know that that wasn't what I was referring to...I'd have thought that;
they'd probably have to run to the nearest mirror if they did to ensure they've still got a full face of make up.

would underline the point I was making, evidently not.

Will try TK Max, for some reason I can never find shorts. I always have my sweat towel with me.

    Cheers for all the replies!

Don't see this Chick doing my weight...

Thanks for the rudimentary biology lesson. If you are that disgusted by sweat you would never engage in any physical activity involving other people. Coitus would be right out.

Not to mention that urea works wonders for severly dry skin! alot of excema treatments contain it.
