Emo to be made illegal in Russia...

I hate feck emo kids as much as everyone else but is is just crazy....

A new Russian law could make being an emo kid illegal in the eastern European country.

Legislation is currenting being formulated in Russia to heavily regulate emo websites and ban emo and goth dress style in schools and government buildings.

The new laws are apparently being driven by fears that these "dangerous teen trends" encourage depression and suicide.

Okay, that's just weird and a tad extreme to enforce legislation like that. The word 'Communism' suddenly just entered my head.. I wonder why?! :rolleyes: Russia as a country encourages depression and suicide all on its own via its poverty and general economic hardship. With oil prices skyrocketing Russia - which is a major oil exporter, to the exclusion of importing other resources equally- is facing increased inflationary risks and an increase in its national GDP. General produce there will be even more expensive than before in time.

Also, Russian levels of alcohol consumption (nearly 15 litres per person) and suicide are among the highest in the world; their suicide rate has almost doubled since 1990, with nearly 57,500 Russians taking their own lives every year. I imagine that the cocktail of a difficult economic climate and heavy drinking contribute to the abnormally high prevalence of suicide. Ask anyone who comes from Russia if it's a wonderful, happy place and they'll most likely tell you, "No".

Dmitry Medvedev and his posse are only using Emo/Goth as a sort of 'fall guy', and to subversively give themselves permission to garner more control over and supervision of young Russian people. They're being irrational.

Yep. Western governments do it too, only with a bit more sublety. They try to make it socially distasteful rather than illegal.

Not into that sort of fashion myself but if you think about it, all clothes are mass produced so EVERYONE is bound to dress like someone else. Its nothing to do with individuality, its just covering your 'shame' in a way thats comfortable for you.
