Has anyone heard of anyone having equipment confiscated at an unauthorised rave? I heard of record collections and amplifiers taken away by the cops from mates that had these in the past mainly just to shut the show down and to make sure that the sounds don't start up again.

Most cases I have heard the guys have got their gear back from the cops the following day when they have called down to the station. I was at one "party" where the cops called out and reckoned that there would have been more trouble if they had stopped it, they let it go on and went away. Has anyone ever heard of stuff confiscated?

Any decent rave that I have ever been at would use only Technics 1210's and 100% legal and original Vinyl recordings, CDs and MP3s at a rave would be considered bad practice. The only reason cops would intervene would be if they suspected drug abuse or to keep the noise down. Being involved in a counterfeirt operation is a different matter altogether.

DJ Spider responds with something off topic, RTDH takes said off-topic and runs with it on the original topic, while demonstrating its still clearly 1999 somewhere in his world.

CD piracy, which is what DJS mentioned, has nothing to do with 'illegal' raves, which, believe me, would have CDJs at them these days.

I would be very reluctant to bring my CDJ Mk2's to any "unauthorised" rave :eek: Its vinyl or nothing. If I was to compromise with another form i.e MP3s it would be with a laptop and a sketch setup. I have been to parties out in the middle of no where equipment has been exposed to the weather, sand, and traipsing across fields etc. Decks will take allot more abuse than CdJs.

If your talking about over here, yes stuff has been confiscated, radio station I used to play on had a rave a couple of years back, got busted and they withheld the equipment for the guts of 18 months until the court case came up!

I think Cozzy who used to run the Creation parties had some gear confiscated after one of the parties, but I dont think it matters what medium your using to play IE CDjs / Vinyl etc?

Id bring my cdj1000s to a party no bother, as I dont use vinyl anymore, Id make sure to be not too far from them if the fuzz decided to put a halt to things though!!!

Cops will take what they want if they feel like it, dont think it matters the medium used, never saw them take records though....

My Mk1's have taken worlds of abuse and work fine, and CDs are far sturdier than vinyl. The few 'beach parties' I've been to (and I don't mean the one in Portrush!) I've been to have been CD based - far less to carry.

Im the same, If my gear goes out im with it all night. Thats why I think an old set of decks would be more suitable than a valuable set of CdJs, they can be set up and left all night for anyone to play their set, worst thing that can happen is a damaged needle.

My oldest CDJ100s are worth significantly less than an 'old set' of 1210s these days I'd guess... and decks can be drink-destroyed just as easily as CDJs.

And believe me, I'm a pro at drying CDJs out!

Did you ever get sand inside your CDJ's???:D A good set of mark 1's will always be worth a few bob just like Technics. Some people like myseld prefere to play WAV fileis ie ordinary cds and couldnt be bothered with the complicated MP3 capabilities of the Mark3's If I want to play MP3s on my decks I use a scratch set up. This is what happened to the mark 2 technics and why they still remain the most popular of the series despite bringing out the mark 5. Anyone who dosen't carry their CDJs in flight cases dosen't derseve to have them. I have seen guys arrive up at gigs with these piled on on another in cardboard boxes

Note that I said 100s not 1000s! 100s are pretty much worthless these days.

Bollocks, you can't have any sort of a serious DJ setup without CD decks these days. Not having CD decks available is considered bad practice.

Yeah ive been at many illegal Raves that the filth have raided and confiscated the equipment while junkies are out robbing houses and mugging people and getting away with it and here they are hassling ravers doing no harm.:mad:

Bull**** of the highest order, im a "real" dj and I used to use vinyl, until I had to get 2 discs removed from my spine from carrying my record bag to gigs and radio 3 times a week, I was out of work a yr and a half as a private patient and it was all because of me carrying my record bag to and from gigs and the radio all the time that actually caused the injury!

At that stage I was already using 1 cdj1000 with my sets so I stopped carrying vinyl altogether and bought another cdj1000, I still use vinyl the very odd time but I gave up paying 11.99 for a track im gonna play 1 side of and started buying high quality mp3s, the 1 side of the vinyl I would have payed 12 quid for I now get for €2.00!

I can do better things now with cds now than I ever could with vinyl, hot cue, looping, reverse etc, all saved on my memory card - you get my drift

And now most producers these days who are releasing "digital only" as b-sides, I can think of Marco Carola, MNus crew and a few others off the top of my head!

That old vinyl vs cd debate is an old chestnut and the argument isnt valid as far as im concerned, whatever medium you use to play, well and good......

Last ten gigs I've been at / been involved with where there were 1210s provided - they never got used. Last time I saw vinyl being used in a set was when I was present at (rather than 'attending' I must add) a Scot Project gig. And it was just him, not any of the supporting acts.

Last time *I* used vinyl was to rip a Rodd-Y-Ler 12" I bought on eBay. Cables in to PC, ripped, CD burnt, deck put back in case and back in spare room.

Well you must be donkeys years behind times. Modern day Vinyl DJs carry just 3 time coded disks, a scratching amp with a laptop and their playlist on MP3. One can legally download almost any track that was once only reserved to Vinyl on line from several sites. I use the OODJ, CDJ1000's MK2s and Technics 1210;s MK2; and can use them all with MP3s. There is far more satisfaction quing up tracks on a pair of decks dropping a needle than pressing buttons and looking at numbers. As a back up I would still carry hard copies as I would never depend on MP3s.

That is *not* vinyl DJing, thats laptop DJing with a controller. That the controller happens to be blip disks doesn't change a thing.

Have heard stories of stuff getting lifted while raids were going on. Also heard a story of johnny moy's record bag being swiped.

RE: 00DJ, a mate of mine who uses one in Slapper Copper Face Jacks, told me that someone tried to swipe it from the DJ booth! Although it was working, and was plugged into the mixing desk! I always use a kingston lock and attach it to my amp! Bloody heavy so like to see them lug that as well!

Speaking from experience and having read the legislation after the event where the Gardai threatened to confiscate the gear they don't have the right to take the equipment - the law basically says that if you promise to take away the gear as soon as is practicable (i.e. whenever you can get a car or van there to take it away) they can't take it but if you refuse or cause more hassle then they can take it. Generally they'll take the generator just to make sure you make no more noise but they'll return it if you call the station to collect it and probably just get a wrap on the knuckles!

Everyone has a preference, and if you ask me, the most important thing about being a DJ is being able to put on a good show for a crowd, and what medium you use to do that means **** all.

ive just recently had my decks, and my mate has had his speakers and generator confiscated there on friday at a forest off the garda, the decks and all hadnt even been set up when the garda arrived and yet they still took them off us, we went up to the station the next day to try get our gear back and they said they werent going give them back cause they were going to use them as evidence for an investgation of an illegal organised rave even though no rave had been held!! they said this could take up to 6 months and i simply need them soon as posible due to djing is my only source of income!!

now drugs were found aswell but were found in some elses bag and have nothing to do with me, can anyone tell me please if im fully entitled to get my decks back?? thanks

I would imagine they have ya snookered though planky, i would inquire though as to what case it is being held as evidence for if they havnt charged you with anything, did they arrest you at all on the night? you may receive a summons for tresspassing & this could be why they have held the gear until it gets to court.
