I'm a 18 year old lad 6'3 and 17 1/2 stone.Have played rugby for the past 8/9 years but had to give it up with college commitments etc.Recently to my horror I have noticed the formation of what can only be described as man boobs or moobs.Im looking to lose weight in general but these are defo at the top of my list.

Any advice on what excercises I can do to nip this in the bud would be greatly appreciated?

Watch your diet, you need to cut back on some fat.Do your drink a lot of beer?Beer is notorious for giving people moobs.Generally, its just a sign you need to lose some weight.Whats your diet like?

If you're a member of a gym or a member of the college gym.. There'll be instructors there to show you.. there's a machine for working the chest muscles, not sure what it's called but just ask one of the instructors! thats what they're there for!

Cheers for replying so quick.Yeh drink a fair share of beer and the diets not great since giving up the training, although Iv been eating ok recently.Im back in the gym now and have been using that machine for chest muscles alright but was worried that maybe it would increase muscle and therefore size but will check with instuctors.Doing a lot of cardio lately aswell to try drop a few pounds.

Its not a matter of excercsing the muscles, its a matter of burning off the fat thats on top of the muscle.Drop your overall fat percentage and the moobs will come off too.If i was you,i'd cut down on the beer and tweak your diet, eat smaller meals and cut out processed stuff.

Hey man, go for big compound lifts. Get shown them and you're laughing. cardio will only make you a smaller version of what you are, get me? Weights speed up the metabolism, and help you burn fat,

    Squat, Deadlift, Bench, Press,

Clean up the diet, simplest advice I can give you based very quickly on your goals, if it comes from a colourful box, or is from the frozen food section dont eat it. It will work, a clean diet and steady programme of lifting AND cardio, will produce results guaranteed

Get a good diet or get a wonderbra and at least have a nice set that others can enjoy too.:D

Not knowing too much about your day to day routine makes it hard for people on the internet to give advice. Maybe post your average eating day.

well let us know what the instructer says, as to be onest most are pure ****.
u want the big compound moves bench, deads, squats,
however as your new to the gym dont get to worked up about these as the correct form takes a while.

dumbell bench press (slight incline in chair can make it more comfortable)

lat pull down/Bent over row single arm

    single arm dumbell shoulder press

bodyweight squats (ass to floor everytime dont worry bout adding weights, concentrate on allowing ur muscles to stretch, and try to keep your feet flat, ie as u rise dont go up on your toes, will take time.

these 4 excercise can be done in even the most basic of gyms, and will hit the big muscle groups. after 2 weeks or so you will introduce the bar to your squats and concentrate on form

youtube is a good place to find out how to use correct form, but watch out for twats showing off

Yeap beer is definitely a no no. It bloats and when mixed with your system encourages estrogen to be produced (dont ask me why), but that is why you get moobs and a big belly from beer.

But what everyone has been saying is pretty spot on, big compound movements. Doing HIIT would help you lose weight faster.

Some pushups and dips would help as well, do the pushups at the end of your workout till failure.

Cable crossovers are a great exercise and if you really want to smash your chest then do Gironda presses to the neck.

Basically you lie on the bench with your legs off the floor crossed and pulled into your stomach, hold the barbell really wide grip with your thumbs under the bar not closed over it. Lift the bar and slowly bring it down to your neck and then out over your chest (the movement is therefore slightly diagonal).
This is more of an isolation movement as your lats, legs or forearms aren't helping in the lift.
