Is there such thing as an open source Sat Nav unit that uses the likes of Google Maps??

There is OpenStreetMap which can be put onto some Garmin units, but will not properly route yet but may do at a later date and once the data is more complete, it's getting there though. It's certainly possible as there are free routable maps for New Zealand out there, but then there are less roads there for them to have to map as well.
