Can helicopters stay in one place? And if so why is there a police helicopter right over my house since 11 o clock (more than an hour)? What did I do wrong? How do I make it go away?

They're more than likely looking for someone. Helicopter is the best way to find someone at night due to the infra-red camera that picks up bodyheat of someone hiding.

Quick, unplug your computer, take out the HD and stick it in the microwave. It's the only way you're gonna stay out of the 'joy.

Houses in my area tend to get burgled during summertime so I don't know if thats anything to do with it. Its gone now. I can sleep. No sounds of sirens or anything though.

Yes, but not perfect, unless they are on the ground.:) The trick is to fly into the wind at the same speed as the wind.
And if so why is there a police helicopter right over my house since 11 o clock (more than an hour)?
They probably aren't, they are merely near you house and the just sound like they are overhead.

Could be anything, looking for fleeing suspects, taking aerial photographs of road traffic accident site, monitoring traffic or people movement, there is 101 reasons it could be above you.

I agree its noisey but neccessary evil if its keeping your community that bit safer

When we were kids back in the 70ies we used to spend summers on my uncles farm in South Co Down, the British Army choppers used to hover over the farm regularly, we would run out into the fields with hurley sticks and pretend to shoot them down :)

when i lived in royal canal park (in between finglas and cabra) it would be hoverin above my house more nights than not for ages.

There was a long while there where I was convinced the garda pilot was perving on me.

He was over my house every night.

He's gone off me now. :(

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,778 ✭✭✭sebastianlieken

solution: throw rocks at it. Alternativly, take out the auld hurl n sliotar and see if you can hit it.

    :)

actually, dont do that.... it's kinda mean. I think I may know why they're jus hovering there, maybe they ran outta petrol, or broke down....flat tire like? so they're just waiting for the tow-....eh.....airplane/helicopter

He's not a Garda, he's in the Air Corps.

My Ma's gaff (no jokes please) is near there and I remember that helicopter hovering for ages. The noise from it is unreal. Must be some dodgy **** going on near Scribblestown or something. Plenty of fields there for people to hide in! Could have been the Garda National Hide-and-Seek championships?

I'd argue that they can only stay in one place in the air as long as they have fuel.

Helicopters don't fly. They just beat the air into submission.

The Gardai have Helicopters and a fixed wing asset too, these are piloted by members of The Irish Air Corps based at Casement AB Baldonnel. The helicopters they use are EC135 T2's and a BN-2T-4S Defender 4000 Aircraft.
