Sorry to drop a serious tone into AH buuuuut......

On the Luas thismorning I spotted this advert in a free and widely available magazine and it just struck me as plain wrong.

I dont know if the photo is doctored or not but even if it was I think it's really insensitive for anyone who had the misfortune to suffer any physical deformities.

I've removed the company name and prices from the image to avoid any problems and so they dont get any free publicity.

Designer should be shot. What ya reckon?

Mod's move if ya feel this is suited better to a different thread.

Ignoring all the marketing I've studied...

That's just morally f*cking wrong. That's truly awful. You'd want to weep.

Is that because morality and marketing are mutually exclusive?

Nah, because it's a **** ad on its own. :p

No. Its definitely because marketing and morality are mutually exclusive.

Somebody posted a funny one not too long ago, an article about the moral ethics of diamond mining or something along those lines, concentrating their criticism on a particular company. To the left of the article at the bottom of the page there was an ad for the same company, I found it funny but couldn't find the link

    Why remove the company name?

Same as, it takes a lot to shock me and I consider myself a most un-PC peron but fook me that's bad taste. Maybe you can joke about that with your friends but in today's society you cannot post that kind of material as a general advertisment!

Wait until his moral holiness The Most Reverend Ray D'Arcy (genuflect) gets a hold of this:pac:

Also, I don't understand why the name of the offending Company has been blanked?

It's no National Dairy Council of FÁS ad. That's for sure.

Having to remove the company name and prices to post it here is just as stupid as the ad

Well for one thing it promotes the company the ad is for if their name is on it.

That's what the point of the ad was to shock people and then you see the name and remember. Better to see it without the name TBH because some people might actually buy the products after seeing the ad then because you know some people are just that stupid.

Me, I'd just not buy anything from the company ever again. It would go on my list of companies I won't purchase from.

The only reason I blanked the company name was incase it infringed on any of Boards.ie rules.

If a mod gives the okay i'll be more than happy to post the original ad with the name of the company..... Name and Shame I say

UPDATE Monday 7th July @ 4.15pm : Robert from the Laptop Shop has left a comment on this post. An unfortunate set of circumstances resulted in the ad going to print and Robert apologises for the offence caused. Read down through the comments below for the full detail. Thanks for clarifying the situation Robert.

    ——————–

Right, sure, yeah! The wrong version was inadvertently published by the Sunday Business Post and then again inadvertently published in this magazine as seen on the LUAS. Yeah, I believe ya Robert but thousands wouldn't.

Pretty shocking ad tbh. Great for lolocaust but not so good for that company. Making a mistake once is forgivable, to allow the same 'mistake' occur a second time is not.

Here's hoping Robert comes here to explain himself to the masses/mob. Until then, grab the pitchforks and burning torches! :pac:

    EDIT: A fuller explanation:
I own The Laptop Shop so I am ultimately responsible for the ad content. This ad was presented to me by my advertising agency and I didn’t pass it on the basis that I thought it would cause offense. They changed the picture to the same girl with just a sad face which is what I intended… an ad that made a play of the fact that everyones so down about the economy and climate at the moment. The ad that was supposed to run appeared in the Sunday Times on the same day (home section pg22). Unfortunately, due to the fact that The Business Post rang with a last minute deal with literally an hour to production we were under pressure. The person I deal with in the advertising agency wasn’t there and asked someone else to forward on the ad. Unfortunately it was the previous draft that I hadn’t approved and I didn’t actually discover this till I saw the ads in print. I understand most people will think this is a lame excuse but thats what happened. We are a small business and sometimes don’t have the systems or time available to vet things properly. I can only apologise that this mistake caused offense but the fact that a different ad… the correct one was run on the same day in a different paper will hopefully convince people that the advert and the offense was unintentional. The Sunday Times ad is the one which should have gone out. We have obviously learned a lot from the negative reaction.
Seems more plausible but he needs to sack the ad agency. Either way the ASAI will have a nice juicy fine for him I'm sure. If the ad agancy are at fault I'm sure they'll cough up...

Look like the UK are getting some very bad marketing ideas as well.....

An advertising world first has been launched in London - pitvertising. Ananova reports.

"The innovative new concept uses digital TV screens built into the armpits of shirts.

It was developed by deodorant manufacturer Right Guard as the ideal way to market its products.

A hired team of 'Pitvertisers' was sent out into the streets of London to test the new medium."

The ASAI have never fined any advertiser or ad agency. If they did Ryanair would stop advertising completely.

That's scandalous. They have probably messed about with it on their computer, If I was a computer manufacturer or chip maker i wouldn't want them to portray such a callous attitude while advertising my product. That's not to say they are any better, just that they can become very caring and sensitive when it comes to marketing their company image.
