    Hey VBull,

Those female Hen Harriers look a little interesting. I'm no expert but it does look a little more rusty couloured then a female Hen Harrier (although might be the light) but there have been reports of nothern harriers (American Equivalent). Would you mind if i was to show someone those pics to see what they think?

    Regards

At least one of those lads is from BWI, or so I'm told. I'd imagine they would have ID'ed a Northern Harrier if it was about, seeing it in the flesh and all.

That said, I don't know. I'd almost prefer them to be just HH's, easier to ID!

At least 3, possibly 4 there today.

    Hi whyulittle,

As you said prob a female HH but no harm in doing a little investigating. And I agree about the other harrier being a Marsh Harrier.

Great to see many Harriers in Boora I will have to get down there again soon

Juvenile Northern Harriers can be quite rusty coloured like that bird, but they lack streaking on breast. The bird in photo has distinct streaking on breast.

Thanks for that. A female HH it is...still a fantastic bird to see at any time!

x2 Hen Harriers are beautiful birds. You can never see enough of them.:) Northern Harrier's are considered the same species are our Hen Harrier's, so technically there nothing new (sort of!).

For the second time at LB, I practically fell over a Marsh Harrier on the ground. Never spotted it until it flushed out, so only got shots from behind as it flew away. :(

Little Coal Tit was determined to get to the sunflower seeds, I thought he was going to disappear inside the feeder at one stage

I love seeing the little coalies digging in like that. Your feeder looks so full that I can't imagine why it had to burrow in so far!

Yes it was full, must have spied a particularly fat seed that it wanted :D

All the times I have seen treecreepers and never got a shot even half as good as that!

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 419 ✭✭Traonach

I find if you're looking for treecreeper you never find them. If your're looking for something else they seem to turn up. A difficult bird to photograph, however with my photography skills every bird is difficult to photograph:o.

I know what you mean, I had never seen a Treecreeper until this year, once at the Meeting of the Waters and today in Newcastle, Wicklow must be a good place for them! :D

A new bird for me, Stonechat? Really does look so Robin-like!

Male Hen Harrier. So close to a female today, got both of them in the same frame. :)

Yep Stonechat, there must be plenty of them about at the moment, I was out early Sunday morning and there were lots of them, very pretty little birds, I think this is a female the male having a totally black head.
