Lucan Demesne is very desolate these days- today just a Grey Wagtail. a reliable Robin and my good friend 'The Heron'.

Hard to believe but the rock the heron is standing on has been underwater for the last 8 weeks or thereabouts- so I think he was just welcoming it back to the dry-world

Keps, will you leave that poor wagtail be? :)

Any more and he'll be looking for commission and appearance money. ;)

Keps, very tempted to go to Lucan Demesne as I have been following your photos and it looks a very nice place.

Is it safe enough to go during the week with camera, binocs, etc, or weekends would be a better option?

If you are lucky, you might catch a glimpse of the elusive kepsus photographicus. It's well camouflaged and often lurks quietly in bushes and undergrowth (or twitches windows in the more urban setting), with good long-range vision it scans the habitat, waiting for mainly avian prey to pass by before it strikes, often from distance.

Spot the pair of Bonelli's eagles. Spotted them doing a courtship display at 2 km. Was able to hike up to general location they were. Spotted a 3rd calendar year bonelli's on a cliff. It flew off and the pair landed in same place. Great flight views of a rare and sadly declining species in parts of it's range.

Not a great photo, old pocket camera, but very exciting to see all these Red Kites in one place. We counted approx 28. I think there are 23 in the photo if you look carefully....

i make it 27, potentially 28 - there's a small blur down near the treeline, to the right of the lamppost which could be one.
