Apologies for the newbie-ness of this post, but its been annoying me

My current diet is clean, high in protein, not too many carbs

I take a shake and Amino Acids PWO

So ive got a month's sunny holidays comin up in August, and wanna look alright for the beach, so wanna lose a little fat

im doin the same weights, but gonna do cardio aswel

So, if im lifting heavy, and getting lots of protein a day [abt 200g], but on a deficit , what sort of results should I expect? Should I make any size gains at all?

I stand to be corrected on this but on a calorie deficit diet you wont be gaining any new muscle, rather maintaining the ones you have, but you will loose weight, which will help how you look overall, i.e. muscles becoming more defined etc. But you wont be getting huge muscles from your current diet by the sounds of it. Again I stand to be corrected.

As the poster above said you'll gain little or no new muscle on a calorie deficit.

Keep the weights up to maintain muscle and once you've reached your fat loss goal bump up the calorie intake and start building muscle.

you'll maintain muscle and gain definition, you may look bigger! or at least more ripped.

and also you should be losing the right stuff, fat-keep it up, and when you want to bulk, up your calories..

Yeah, thats what I dont get. even though i'd be on a deficit, im still gettin lots of protein, and lots right PWO, so, I dont get why that doesnt cause some growth, regardless of overall instake

Oh well, guess ill find out soon enough. thanks

You might grow a bit, depends on how much you're doing now compared to normal and also if your protein intake was really low before but better now that might cause some growth too. Ultimately any growth will be limited on a defecit though, but rippedness is more important that bigness for le beach so don't worry about it anyway.

Because your in a calorie minus there is no extra calories to build muscle, all calories are used up already, energy, repair and heat etc..

you should keep eating the carbs really if you are training. you can cut down to make sure it is calorie deficient if you want, but carbs are the bodys energy sourde.
without them all that protein you are taking in is being used for energy and not muscle building.

"Carbohydrates spare protein and are your body's principal source of fuel. They provide the energy necessary for intense workouts more efficiently than any other energy source. Protein needs carbohydrates to work."

But does the body not extract energy from body fat to use in the overall metabolic process? i.e that is where it finds extra energy to build muscle etc? Maybe someone with personal experience can shed some light, as its something I've always wondered too.

well i,ve personally lost 4 stone to compete in boxing, went from 13-9 stone and never gained an ounce of muscle, even though i lifted heavier and trained harder then before-the good thing was i lost no muscle so was just lean and had a very low body fat%

also i've been a trainer for about 9 years and seen the same happen to all the clients who actually stuck to a diet plan,

the fat used is because your body still needs the energy and thats its only option, muscle is an option too but not if you train and eat enough protein, fat can never build muscle, so once again there is no extra calories to build muscle..this is simple science.
