Hi long time browser of this forum first time poster here, im a 21 year old male 5ft 11 and just over 13 stone as of 2 minutes ago. Ive pussyfooted around getting myself into shape for the last two years even going as far as joing a gym but letting myself slip off the good routine i had going by a combination of convincing myself that my college work was more important and my own inate lazyiness.

Now the exercise part i think i have pretty much in hand with a good balance of cardio and weights but its the diet side of things i tend too struggle with.

I admit i have absolutely sod all will power when it comes to some foods:(:(

Ive decided that this is the last holiday that im going on where i dont feel happy walking out round the beach or pool so with your help i want to critique my new diet and get it right this time.

    1st meal:
2 wheatabix with skimmed milk and orange juice
    2nd meal:
A piece of fruit( apple, orange, pear)
    3rd meal:
brown bread sanwich with chicken, grated cheese, lettuce and onion.
    4th meal:
    yougurt or handfull of seeds/nuts
    5th meal:
pasta dish or meat and veg (depending on how im feeling)
    6th meal:
    protein shake

My liquid intake is sorted with about 3-4 litres of water a day.

Any tips, hints or criticisms are very welcome.
    Thanks:D

Too much carbs, not enough quality protein or fat. Base your diet on eggs, fish (oily and white), red meat, chicken, lots of green vegetables, some fruit, some whole grains (porridge, not cheerios), some nuts, some cheese, some oils. Limit all processed food, including breakfast cereals and bread and pasta.

Cutting down on carbs is not necessarily the best thing for everyone EileenG.

OP I don't see a lot wrong with your diet tbh just eat more veg and better quality carbs. So instead of regular pasta try whole wheat pasta. Make sure any bread you eat is whole grain and for breakfast have whole grain oats instead of weetabix.

+1 and make sure to be as active as possible every day ...

No, I'd never tell a competitive athlete to cut down on carbs, but for someone who wants to lose weight, it's usually the first place to start, especially as most people have no idea how much carbs they are eating, and are actually eating two or three portions worth in one serving. Apart from anything else, if you cut back on carbs, you tend to replace them with higher protein foods. It's pretty hard to eat much butter if you are not eating bread.

I stick to that routine as closely as possible degsy but as you said there are very few people who dont have a weakness for something or other. I dont get tanked up as you said but i do enjoy a couple of pints every now and again and a takeaway if i really feel like treating myself but not often enough for it to be a major dealbreaker.
As the great gem once said there is nothing wrong with a cheat meal every so often, it keeps you from going off the rails completely.
