3 times I've watched it now... In a word, incredible. This actually exceeds my expectations.

    Dr. Manhattan looks terrific too!

If you've missed the trailer, here's one on youtube, but the quality isn't good at all. I would absolutely urge everyone here to wait until tomorrow and see the high quality one on Empire.

**** me, it's something else, and you don't want to see a poor version of it.

Edit: Beat me to it Madrab.

Ive never read the Watchmen but....wow, that looks absolutely incredible. About as far from a typical hollywood comic book movie as you can get.

    Cant wait!

Should I read it before or after the movie comes out ?

Well, I bought mine in Sub City ages ago, so not sure if there's any shops that'll be doing it cheap now, but you can get it from Play.com or Amazon.co.uk for £9.99.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,579 ✭✭✭BopNiblets

Lol, putting "HD quality" in youtube video titles is just gone beyond funny now.

    Can't wait.

+ shipping...would probably work out close to 20 euro. Might be around the same price in one of the comic shops here.

    I just watched it there.

    Wow.

Just, wow. The tone seems perfect, I spotted moments lifted straight from the comic & even the music used in the trailer was spot-on. I wonder if Synder himself was involved in its making. I'm now super pumped up for this movie & if they're showing this prior to Dark Knight then I'm going to be an explodiing ball of fanboy glee in the cinema this time next week!

By the by people, what is the Smashing Pumpkins track?

  • Moderators, Arts Moderators, Regional Abroad Moderators Posts: 11,138 Mod ✭✭✭✭Fysh

The trailer itself is great and has considerably improved my expectations for the film. The choice of song, however, was bloody terrible; as mentioned by someone else it seems a total judgement lapse to have such a promising trailer accompanied by a song that evokes the absolute worst of comic-inspired films.

Still, that's got me actually looking forward to the film somewhat now rather than dreading it :) (Still prefer the book and cherish my oversize hardcover of it, but that's another matter)

Thought the music was great, what sp song is it does anyone know?

Holy flurking schnit! That looks very good indeed (even if the music nearly had me muting it - lucky I didn't for that Rorschach voice snippet).
But yeah looks very loyal, thank ****. Jaw dropped when I saw the
    Mars
    bit at the end.

Very high quality version here, incidentally

It'll come as an animated movie for the DVD, narrated by Gerard Butler iirc.

kinda glad they arent in it, never really got that part of it

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,005 ✭✭✭Creature

Well that does indeed look quite good. Must go back and read it again.

Sweet - they're actually going to the effort of making it. It would have been a difficult one to incorporate into the main movie.

It's a great graphic novel and now I'm feeling a little less apprehensive that it won't be a complete screw up. I just hope they're fully faithful, right up to and including the great ending - word is they have been, but I'm always cynical..

without the ending the story would loose alot of its umph

Have to say that the trailer looks amazing. I'm a big fan of Snyder's, his Dawn of the Dead is one of the best horror films in years and 300 is just fantastic. 2009 cannot get here fast enough.

Well, I think Synder said he's going to be completely faithful, and some of the cast members have said how the ending isn't going to be changed.

How'd the feck did I miss this today?

Only spotted it now... looks absolutely wonderful - great visuals, great choice of music and some wonderful moments in the trailer.

Snyder's hit-and-miss in my eyes.. thought 'Dawn of The Dead' was one of the best horrors of late but '300' remains absolute trash in my eyes. Definitely was a good choice for director though all the same.. at least we didn't get Brett Ratner in his place!!

Yeah, the guy who plays Night Owl confirmed that Synder had remained faithful to the original ending. I suppose I'm not still sold on the actor playing Ozy, he does seem a tad too young, but I'll see how it plays.

Why the hatorade for the music btw the guys? I thought it worked better than 300's own rock tailer music tbh.

I thought the same thing at first, but as Watchmen takes place over a different decades, I think they needed a young actor that could be aged with makeup, and if you look at him in the trailer at 46 seconds in, it looks like they did a good job.

Partly because it's a pumpkins-by-numbers track, and partly because it's very reminiscent of the music used in Batman And Robin (also a pumpkins-by-numbers track). If you're making an adaptation of one of the finest comics ever made, particularly one that's based on the idea of superheroes and costumed vigilantes, using a musical backdrop that reminds everyone of the film that was so bad it killed off a film franchise is probably not the best idea.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,667 ✭✭✭madrab

but at least there is no yellow or green neon lights in the trailer

(on the topic of B&R, arny was meant to play dr manhatten when they were gonna make the movie years ago)

Yeah I went looking for the track and it turns out it IS the Pumpkins track they used for Batman and Robin, albeit remixed to be more dramatic (which works very well methinks as the original does indeed stink somewhat).

I think however this could potentially be another in-joke by the production crew; it was acknowledged a while back that the rubber-suit versions of the Watchmen were deliberate pastiches of the old-school superhero movie costumes (Schumachers Batman et al) to tie in the visual history of the genre since the original novel. So I think this is just another nod towards that; using music from the nadir of superhero movies. Funny stuff :D

It looks interesting to say the least.

It looks absolutely fantastic, without a doubt the best realisation of a comic universe yet.

I read a quote from a crew-member who reckoned they were making the Blade Runner of the 21st century.

Song is a slowed down version of The End is The Beginning is The End.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,788 ✭✭✭ztoical

just saw this at the start of the dark knight and it looks a hell of alot better on the big screen, well except for the backwards pan through the cogs - the looks like such a rush job, most likely to have it for the start of Dark Knight. And the music is even more annoying.

Correct - but, it's actually a seperate song.

"The Beginning is the End is the Beginning"

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Batman_&_Robin_(soundtrack)

Look at songs 1, and 15...
