I've noticed my ankles getting a bit sore lately and they feel quite weak when I run, I think it may be my shoes. Does anyone know a good place to get good value, high quaslity runners that wont kill my ankles? Would the highstreet sports shop rip me off or do they have sales on ATM?

www.amphibianking.ie in bray, excellent place, really know their stuff. It is pricey, min would be probably €100, but all are at or below RRP. i.e. they refuse to sell crap.

They will video and analyze your running in the store, I got to go for a run in the carpark with several pairs to try them out.

    +1, I love my pair!

€100  I'm not looking to run the New York City Marathon! I guess I'm looking for the minimum that wont kill my ankles, something with a bit of bounce.

You can't underestimate the value of a good pair of runners tbh.

I'd rather splash out on a pair that will last me ages than spend 40 on a pair and a few months down the line need another pair.

It's not really the bounce that's important, it's how the shoe is moulded depending on if you over/under pronate etc.

I think by bounce I meant shock absorbing...my girly little ankles don't like shock!

But you don't know it's to do with shock. If you're running regularly you really should get a pair. The difference between the pair I got and the old nikes I used to run in was like night and day. You should consider it an investment in your feet and legs and not 100E down the drain!

I went to runways on parnell street, They were great, had the GAIT analysis done and turned out the runners i was running in were wrong for me, bough a new pair las week so will let you now how it goes.

Even the worst pair of Asics are better than some of the other brands. You don't have to go as high as €100 but you should be looking at €70 plus. What's better, sore ankles and €30 extra bills in your pocket or running without pain?

Agree with the others here, a bit of extra cash is not a big price to pay for a decent pair of runners, especially if your having problems. The extra money spent now could save you alot of hardship later on down the road with injury and medical bills.

As others have said, most asics are decent and have good support, however it might be worth while going to a physio or someone to check out your alignment and gait etc.

I only go walking in mine, big difference and well worth the price. I have loads of mates with wrecked knees & legs from running in various sports, it is one thing I would not skimp on. You would probably pay as much for fancy high heels that would wreck your feet ;)

The guys in amphibian king do check your gait etc for free, so you are saving cash on not having to get a 3rd party to do it. Also they know exactly which runners are which, i.e. asics are a top brand, but you do not want to get a pair of asics designed for supinators when you are a pronator. Go to most sports shops in town and the guy serving you was working in mcdonalds the week before.

I was hoping no-one would call me on that...I'd happily spend 100 quid on a nice pair of heels :o

They have Asics on sale in some shops in the city atm, my current pair are Asics but a bit worn so perhaps newer ones might make a difference.

I had a great pair of runners before but I lost them...super comfy they were, can't even remember the make!

I remember the first time I got on a treadmill after years of laziness, hadn't so much as a decent pair of trainers. Just flat bottomed runners with no heel absorption or anything.

After 5 minutes I was a red roaring mess with the shin splints.

Taught me a lesson there and then, don't scrimp on the trainers if you're running any little bit at all. I change shoes every 6-8 months and always spend €80-€100 on a decent pair of asics. I must try out the amphibian king as well though, I'd be spending that amount anyway so may as well get the old gait analysis as well.
