How charming to be at about a hybrid = Amulet
    Nice!, very nice

He sounds deep, by the sound of it = Abase
I don't get it. Ok, it sounds like abyss, but where does the 'he'
part come in (abe, abba?), and there's no straight definition. :(

Nothing too difficult in yesterday's. The common word in the four perimeter clues was
    class

The only one I'm not too sure about is 12a: Pinches one's back, but not it seems for the spout (4)
SPIN (nips - aka pinches - reversed)
fits the checked letters; however, I'm not sure how this relates to spout.
