    Howdi guys and gals,

Looking for some wrist wraps as i get wrist pain when doing barbell cruls and preacher curls. Doesnt affect me doing any other exercise but does get progressively worse to the point whre it starts affecting my other exercises if i persist with either. Someone menthioned to me that maybe wrist wraps would do the trisk so im wandering if somebody could tell me where to get them?

also looking for straps as my deadlift abilities have surpassed my grip strenght and i dont want my grip strenght to be a limiting factor. Cheers!

Wrist wraps will not do the trick. They may mask the problem a bit but you should get that sorted out tbh.

I'm not sure where you'd get wraps in Ireland. I've always ordered off liftinglarge.com (America) or you could always try pullumsports in the UK unless someone knows of an Irish company that do them.

    Cheers,

I ckecked ou that UK website. would these straps be suitable for use doing deadlifts and barbell shrugs? (see link at bottom). they dont have an explanation as to their use and ive never used any before so want to make sure i get the right ons. Cheers again!

They look fine, any old pair will do. I got mine for a tenner in Workout World when it was open.

I had a similar query re:straps for DL a few months ago, for the same reasons; I got some straps off mickk in Pinnacle which are great so maybe drop in or pm him and see if he has any.

As to your wrist problem, I broke my wrist last year and it still gives a little trouble every now and then, I use a wrist support (this) which I find helps a good bit. However, I agree with tribulus, you should make sure you don't mask something that is going to become a bigger problem and check out what the problem is exactly.

    Good luck

I have these with a bit of padding on them for a tenner
    http://irish-lifting.com/product_info_equipment.php?cPath=1_3&products_id=146
also wrist wraps or elbow wraps (they are the same but longer, look a bit silly but a few lads I have sold them to for their wrists swear by them)

although from looking at todays orders i am guessing you already ordered! If you want me to swap the wrist wraps for the elbow ones.

Sorry Mickk, didn't realise you did those.

wraps should not be used to allow you lift more weight, if your grip is causing a problem then work on that. Maybe a captains of crush or I heard towel chins are very good for grip,

    You mean straps?

I don't see the problem with it really. If someone wants to train their back or traps and their grip is hindering it's development then it makes sense to use straps to overcome this.

Of course if grip strength was important for a sport e.g powerlifting then grip work would be the way to go.

Sorry its late, yeh I did mean straps. I dont see a problem with it, but I reckon if I am not strong enough to grip the weight I am trying to lift,

I should work on it until I am, definitely each to their own though

What kind of deadlift weight are we talking about before your grip cannot keep up? I know this will vary per person but I'm looking for a ballpark figure.

    Double bodyweight?

Personally I've done a bit over 2.3x bodyweight and it's not been a problem.
I found my grip improved a lot when I was doing a lot of lat work.

Actually mickk i had ordered off your site before all the replies came in here! A mate told me bout it and i would swap the wrist supports for the elbow ones if you think its better?

And as for the DL question. Yeah my grip maxes out on deadlifts at bout 160kg which is twice my bodyweight and maxes out at bout 120kg for shrugs.

    Thanks for the replies lads!

If you're mixed grip on your shrugs (ie a deadlift grip) then flip one over and go double overhand. Absolute killer of a grip workout. Do sets of 8-10 without the straps for as long as you can, then put on straps and keep going.

I usually work up to 130-140 for a set o 8 without straps and then throw on straps and go to over 200.

I've held onto a 260kg deadift without any problem at all, and I can only shrug 140 without straps!!

Alos, famers walks and high rep (20-25) dumbbell rows without straps are great.

That seems odd, I can shrug more than anything else, maybe you are shrugging up higher than I do or something.

I was loading a tricep bar for shrugs, holding it on the smooth bit in the middle,

This allowed lots of plates compared to a dumbbell, also the extra room mean I could lift it up with both hands, and use the freehand to adjust the strap if needed. Also it was a lower centre of gravity so balance was not an issue, and when lowering it I am able to use the free hand to assist again.

Hmmm.... pretty much everyone I know is like me!! Just to clarify, I'm doing my shrugs double overhand without straps, and my deadlift is mixed grip, again without straps. Is that what you're doing....??

Yeah, what I used to do, I no longer really do them. I never did a lot of leg work so they are probably just lagging, and maybe my shrugs were not as high as other people do them. Also I used to do a lot more shrugs than deadlifts.

I find using a barbell for shrugs a lot handier!
