Back entrance in Clonskeagh? ( hahah sorry )

Yeah, Clonskeagh entrance by the sports hall me thinks.

    Sounds good.

There is free parking at the water tower and the 5-a-side pitches for anyone driving. Some of the spaces at the pitches are pay and display so be careful if you are parking there.

Sounds good to me, whoever came up with that idea is a genius.

My neighbouring club is having their annual tour so i got to go and support it, so unfortuately i got to pull out, i would have liked to put see some of the faces from here, if anyone is interested in metting up in the coming weeks as i am interested in doing wicklow

No worries mate. Someone is always organising a spin for the weekends so there should be plenty more opportunities.

Who is gonna be at Harold's Cross? I haven't a notion how to get to UCD back entrance. I'm just a simple North County Dublin chap.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,833 ✭✭✭niceonetom

right, confession time. i'm defecting to the 125km.

i just don't have the fitness at the moment to do the 200 at anything above a snail's pace and i wouldn't enjoy that, and it wouldn't be fair to the faster guys.

are both setting off together? would be nice to be in a big group at the beginning.

That is the current plan as per this thread, 0700 from Harold's X and 0730 from UCD Clonskeagh. As we all set out together by the turn-off I'm sure you will have been convinced (don't have the fitness my arse, you'd be doing it at least as fast as me!) El Tonto has volunteered for pulling duties on the flat bits so just pull in behind him and recover between the climbs (that's my plan anyway :D)

I think I should be on for the 125k spin. Just so I'm clear, is Harolds X the big 5 road junction up a good bit from Harolds X bridge?

So are there any cyclists who aren't super fast doing the 200?
I like the idea of the 200 but need partners in crime .... ones who'll be moving at the same speed as me in the get away vehicles .. at an average of around 25kph over the 200 .

From what I can see, there are four people doing the 200: El Tonto, Blorg, RogerB and myself. Sure tag along and see how you find it.

If you can average 25km/h over 200km of hills in Wicklow you will be absolutely fine- my W200 average was around that.

    My wicklow 200 was 8hrs 15.....
It sounds like the people doing the 200 are nearer the 30kph average????

Mine was less than 28kph. Anyway, the good man, El Tonto, has already declared his intention to tow us all around the flat sections.

If I am not allowed to cycle it ... I can always hand out the Musettes along the way ...

I'm in too - had a couple of crazy busy days at work, so haven't posted as a result during that time.

Will decide on the day depending on how my tempramental knee feels (bloody thnig acting up and not feeling great today again... AAAARRgghhhh!!!!!!)

Won't be exceeding 80% of my max HR limit due to very specific training I am doing. Did W200 last year in 7h22min, but that was hammering it. Won't be the case tomorrow.

Hooray, meant to ask Caroline if her crazy Bray Wheelers friend was joining in. Yourself and myself can take it easy at the back if you do the 200 :D

I might just follow you ... from the Park's not for the 200 ... no way a normal human being can keep up with you.

I am up for it ... I will probably have as we say in my native tongue ( and excuse the language )... la tete dans le cul that early in the morning ... not sure how fast I can cycle at 6.30 in the morning ... argh! :o

La cabeza en el culo. ( not sure you can say that in spanish too though... could mean something completely different )

Sounds great. Will be there. Don't worry about keeping up with me - The first 20mins of every one of my cycles is the active stretching part (between 60-70% of max HR). You'll be asking me to speed up if anything, même avec la tete dans le cul!

That would be it alright, but it isn't used as an expression there. In Spain, its a plain old "resaca".

Si claro, es verdad - Soy de aquerdo. No me gusta mucho tampoco.

That's just to give the rest of you guys a taste of what the banter between me and Caroline is going to be like on our Vuelta de Wicklow or Tour de Wicklow if you prefer (quand on ne parle pas la lingua franca!) :p

    Met Eireann says:
A mixture of sunny spells and scattered showers tomorrow with most of the showers dying out as the day progresses. Highest temperatures 15 to 19 degrees in moderate to fresh northwest winds.

The wind picture for tomorrow predicts 35kmh northwesterly winds.

Shouldn't be too bad but grrr to the wind!

Sorry to do this, but I'm out for tomorrow -my hip has been at me the last few rides, at first just on the climbs, but it was starting to set in on the flat yesterday too, so I'm takin tomorrow off to try and rest it (will also be tweaking the setup on me bike a bit). I'm really bummed, but there's no way I'd hold up to it I reckon.

    Have fun folks!
