iTunes 7.7 has been released as a direct download from the apple site this morning and it contains the App Store so you can see some of the stuff you can get. I think 2.0 will be going live on this sometime soon coz of time differences in New Zealand wheres its first going live at midnight local time.

To be honest, I don't think if there's enough in 2.0 to really justify an update just yet.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,477 ✭✭✭randombar

And the version we all need from iliberty+??

Hmmmm... is the MS Exchange ActiveSync included in the MobileMe package (only free for 60 days) though, or is it a standalone free feature?

    From my understanding it's standalone.

    Ah, I see.

That's useful alright but from what I've seen in vids of the App Store, nothing too impressive in there (that's not already present, free and better in Installer).

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,477 ✭✭✭randombar

Don't forget that scientific calculator :D

Don't worry.. not long to go!

EDIT: Notice both AppStore and Installer in the first shot... the best of both worlds! :D

What about the rumored portrait video playback and video playlists? Any news if that is in 2.0?

Sweet, christ I can't wait, push contacts, calendar etc!

Will we actually need isntaller once the store is in??

    Hell yes we will...

AppStore app's (although mostly glossy and sleek) are still months behind some of the apps in Installer.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,477 ✭✭✭randombar

    Oh really? Didn't know that.

Will have to have a proper look at iphoneschool so see is there any good apps.

suggestions: iphone subforum + top ten apps sticky = JOB

Is there a reason why we don't get any games in the App store?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,566 ✭✭✭Gillo

Ok, need a little help on this one?

Running OSx 10.5.4, itunes 7.7 (updated fine this morning) and iphone 1.1.4 but when I try to update the iphone through itunes it tells me that my software is up to date. It's not unlocked and using an O2 postpaid sim.

I've checked on the Apple site and can't find the update to manually download.

    Any idea's???

    Sweet, thanks Basquille

Thats the official update I take it, appreciate the help but don't want to jailbreak.
Any idea what I was doing wrong, normally the updates pretty much do it themselves- strange for Apple to make the official stuff tricky.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 44,431 ✭✭✭✭Basq

    Yeah, it's the official update.

No idea what you were doing wrong.. servers might be a bit overloaded this morning.

EDIT: Sorry.. on re-reading, it definitely sounds like a software issue. Odd really!

Thanks anyway. I'd say it's the servers alright as the download is slow enough, damn those French, Americans, German's, Brits etc couldn't they wait another week until the Irish get sorted out!!!

Yeah I am having the same problem, seems like an Apple problem.
If its still not updating tonight when I get home I will do the manual download.
You would think Apple would have rolled this out properly and on time especially for Mac users !

Today would be the most demand their servers have ever had, the previous iphone was launched in stages, ie America first then rolled out to other countries at different stage, so there wouldn't have been a massive demand when activating it at any stage. With the new iphone because it was launched at the same time everywhere there'd be a massive demand on the server from the pint of view of activating it and then there's the likes of me trying to download the update for the old model.

To be honest I can live without the update, looking through the app's, the main thing I would use is Facebook, I'll have a full browse in the next few days.

Main feature I'd have liked to see is Bluetooth V.2, have a pair of these and can't get them to work properly with an iphone or touch.

All the more reason for Apple to have rolled out the upgrade before today:)
I can't wait to see the App store as my iPhone is not jailbroken so have never had anything on it apart from what it came with.

    Yes, same problem.

Great isn't it? No Visual Voicemal, only just got wifi and crazy expensive.

    Excellent

A guy in work buys american itunes vouchers through ebay and set his account up as if he was in the US, he was able to purchase movies at that stage could be worth trying for the games also.

I was looking at that. So that means it does not work off your IP, just off your registered account? I'll have a go and let you know how I get on, thanks Gillo.

Just plugged iPhone into my MPB to move some music over and thought I'd try again for the up date while I'm at it; and it prompted me to install the update:D

I was downloading the link Basquille had given me, but it was less than 10% downloaded so I'd doubt that's what kicked it in.

    Either way HAPPY DAYS!!!

Thanks for the tip off. Tried it there and got the 'try again later' message. Apple's servers must be getting some hammering today!

I've been trying on and off for a good bit of the morning as I was doing stuff for work anyway.

I'd say maybe give it a day or so, also bare in mind the time difference between here and the US they are still only getting their hands on the new models about now.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,534 ✭✭✭Dman001

Surely there should be no problems bring games to the Irish iTunes. I mean the American Store has Ms. Pacman, MS. PACMAN!!

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 311 ✭✭decsramble

No one in O2 seems to know either. My guess is someone somewhere has exclusive rights to something or other so we get screwed, just like on the movies and tv shows.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,566 ✭✭✭Gillo

Scratch my last post I got the update but it's a nightmare to access the store and reactivate the iphone:(

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,664 ✭✭✭rogue-entity

Pity the EU cant make a ruling that "exclusive" rights agreements like that were illegal.. it pisses me off to no end, that we still cant get TV shows that have long-since aired in the UK and Ireland on iTunes, yet we can happily buy them on DVD or *cough* download *cough.

Does anyone actually know why this is exactly? Is some company trying to block iTunes from distributing the content here, or is Apple just trying to save on bandwidth costs?

Same prob here ... the iPhone wants to be connected to iTunes, iTunes can't access the iTunes Store for whatever reason. So seems bricked for the moment. :(

Anyone here able to download games yet?

Hey guys, might wanna be careful with that update that was knocking around on Apple's website, some complaints about performance with it knocking around the net.

Haha, click on 'check for updates' three times and, if it fails, it seems to revert to saying you have the most recent version. Must have patience :pac:

Has been the 2.0 software officially released yet?

Another thread here. Seems it may have been put off for iPod Touch owners until some time tomorrow (according to a poster on Apple's support forums).

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,566 ✭✭✭Gillo

Finally managed to activate it this morning, very impressive it is.

The push email worked faster than a Blackberry, although that might be because I'm using .mac (sorry Mobileme)

Added a few new app's, they're running very smooth. The facebook interface is fast enough and very straightforward. Using the App store from teh iphone itself is just like using the itunes store.

Calender looks a lot with the colour coded appointments. Haven't tried remotely syncing contacts and calender as it synced this morning through the activation anyway.

So far, very impressed and definelty recommend updating the software.

    Hi,
Any idea why we don't get the Games in Ireland. The Super Monkey Ball game is supposed to be the best app to show off the phone. If I switch the ITunes store to US I see tons of games, the same if I switch to the UK store. Yet the irish Itunes shows me this, which is really sad:
    nogamesinitunesrg9.th.jpg
Also, it a bit odd as Super Monkey ball is specifically mentioned on the Irish Apple website as the game to get for the IPhone!! Surely, someone in Apple needs to fix this ASAP.

Downloaded monkeyball this morning - haven't really had time to get to grips with it - seems tricky though! Here's how I did it:

Bought an itunes gift card code off Ebay ($47 for a $50 card) from a seller with good feedback - had within a couple of minutes.

Logged out of my itunes account and changed to the US store

Entered my code, hit the redeem button and entered a US address I got of the net (a hotel in New Hampshire - no sales tax there) also used a different email address to the one I use for my Irish account - not sure if this was strictly necessary?

    Downloaded monkeyball logged out

Logged back into Irish account and synced onto my iphone

Lots of games/movies/tv episodes on US store

I was also able to download US games direct from my iphone - there 197 at last count!

Obviously as well as breaking Apples T+Cs I've probably commited fraud too

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,534 ✭✭✭Dman001

Well, they do state on the Website that "Some applications are not available in all areas".

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 220 ✭✭hosi

Maybe a stupid question but how can I switch time format to am and pm? For some reason this option is grayed out. Any ideas?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,566 ✭✭✭Gillo

Is it set to 24 hour?

Anybody know why this is? Is it a licensing issue? Or a regional payments issue? Or something else? It is a little bit frustrating that they bombarded us with "Monkey Ball" ads, got us all excited with the cools apps (well me anyway) and then failed to deliver them. Bad Apple. Nasty mis-representing Apple.
