Sorry for jumping in with one if it's not my turn.

A mother and her daughter try to cross a very busy road. After about 20 mins they make it to the other side when the daughter says "thank God the three of us made it across safely". Why did she say 3?

Yup!! :D Actually there's another answer to that which I think is more accurate but lets wait until someone figures it out.

Yea I would go with the daughter doesn't know how to count.

Haha you had a point there. Actually I've heard that riddle before but it was pigs' version. Mother pig and her 3 kids crossing a river and in the end the mother said 5 instead of four and the answer is because pigs don't know how to count.

This may not be the answer you're looking for but is it
    a fridge door
    ?

you can if you're in the fridge

  • Registered Users Posts: 15,065 ✭✭✭✭Malice

you can if you're in the fridge
You could say the same about
    an oven door
come to think of it :).

  • Registered Users Posts: 527 ✭✭✭Spike440

Yeah I thought it was one of those persepctive riddles and that the answer is
The type of door you pull
    .

Like that one: I have two Irish coins which add up to 30c and one is not a 20c piece. What are the coins?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 30 Farasoi

Haha ok time to spill the bean. Oven door and fridge etc are pretty logic, but only if you try to open them on the outside. So they're not the real answers. But I didn't expect you guys will come with those. Brilliant. :)

    The real answer is
door that has a sign 'pull' on it
    . :p

I think I've heard/read a different version of that one where it's American coins being used.
They both add up to 50c and one of them's not a quarter. The answer is of course that they are both quarters. It annoyed me when I found out the answer!

Well at least we know the answer now :). Well done Spike440!

  • Registered Users Posts: 527 ✭✭✭Spike440

    Answer:
One of them isn't a 20c piece, the other one is.

    Two languagey ones:

    1. Punctuate this so that it makes sense:

THAT THAT IS IS THAT THAT IS NOT IS NOT IS NOT IT SO IT IS

    2. Present a reasonable scenario in a short paragraph that results in the last sentence in the paragraph using the word "and" five times in a row.

And by the way, I would point out that the supposed answer to the very first riddle in this thread is unsatisfactory. You can certainly go more than halfway into the wood, since halfway into the wood is only a quarter of the way across the wood. You can actually go ALL THE WAY into the wood (this being, obviously, the centre of the wood!). We mathsy types, of course, couldn't just leave it at that. We'd have to start thinking about all sorts of interesting scenarios. So I've just this very moment thought up another puzzle for you:

    3. Just to be clear, let's make the reasonable definition that "going into the wood" means moving farther from the edge and "going out of the wood" means going closer to the edge. Now, can you think of how you might start walking into the wood, reach a point where you can't go any further in any direction without coming out of the wood and still not be as far into the wood as someone else is?

I like the way someone called "MathsManiac says they are presenting 2 riddles and then produces a list with 3 on it :P.

For the first one, how about this:
THAT, THAT IS, IS THAT THAT? IS NOT. IS NOT. IS NOT IT. SO IT IS.
Actually, reading back over that guess, I'm pretty sure it's completely wrong!
