Just need some general advice on training more than once a day. I have the next three months off full time work to work on my thesis and have plenty of time to do extra exercise. Just want to know is it a good idea and what way should I split my sessions? I'd be looking to train twice a day I'd say.

What are you doing or planning to do? What are your goals and stats etc.?

you could do weight in the morning and cardio in the evening, no big deal. if you are training every day, do a split training program for your weights, different body parts every day...

Yeh I already do a split program for the weights. Cardio/weights split was what I was thinking as well. Goals are just to improve my fitness (play football for boards team), lose the belly and improve upper body strength. Thanks guys

    another question in this general

I would be looking to train twice a day for a specific sport - have a lot of time on my hands

want to improve my skill levels.

would i better off doing this skills work before doing weights/cardio or after it?

You have just asked one of the largest, most debated questions known to man. And by man I mean sports coaches.

The general consensus among much debate would be to keep technical skills sessions seperate, some say very seperate, some say on the same day with rest is fine. I'm inclined to agree with the latter but since most skills training takes place in the evenings, I think you have to allow for a degree of fatigue from any earlier session.

I would say skills on a seperate day.

But if your sport is not weightlifting , powerlifting or highland games and your training every day or 6 days a week surely you have no choice but to do them on the same day.

I would do weights before cardio and not split body parts just do compound lifts .
    What is your sport ?

Hmm I'd say you can do both strength and skills work on the same day, I've been doing it for years, basically you do skills and things requiring fine motor control first, then strength work then stretch, as the last two will cause you to lose some of your propriorectption so its best to do them after.

So if i was to approach it by doing weights in the morning, then an hour of skills work in the evening on my own.

Or better to do the skills training when I am less tired and muscle fatigued?

But, you have to perform the skills in a game when you are tired/fatigued.

Hard to know really. I'll just have to spend a week or two doing it one way and see how it goes.
