Ebay seemed reasonable to me when I checked last. Try a few searches, like tug of war etc. Marine shops might have some, but usually stuff like that is expensive over here.

I might be interested in some too if it was cheap enough, are you in dublin? We could possibly go splits on it, (EDIT: I see you are in limerick) I will have a look later online for it. I want to read a little more about it, if 1.5" or 2" is best. It usually comes in more than 10ft lengths, and is not much more when buying longer, i.e. 50ft might only cost 30% more than 20ft.

I noticed some in my mates house, it was used as a railing between posts but looked only 1" thick. You could well get old used rope from a boat cheap or free.

Some guys just use mop heads slung over a bar for pullups, you can grab as much or as little of the fibres as you want.

    Maybe email these guys http://irishtugofwar.com/
A tug of war guy posted here just the other day.

I spent about 3 days on the web and phone before and came up with nothing in Ireland. If anyone finds some either here or internationally I'd be interested in a joint effort.

I'd need about 10 foot as well.

What thickness would you recommend Emmet?

I found an ebay powerseller in the UK with 65ft of 40mm manila, it is buyitnow €65 excluding delivery. I reckon delivery would be another €25-40 though, he quoted £10 within the UK which seemed reasonable, so it may be less if he has a cheap courier.

I have asked him to quote to Ireland.

Also what sort of fixings do you use on the ends? I presume it would be hard to tie a knot in a thick rope, and you would sacrifice length. You can get rope crimps. I was also thinking of pipe jubilee/wormdrive type clamps,

you could get some thinner synthetic rope and fold it over, put both ends against the manila rope and put 2-3 clamps on.

We use 40mm alright but of a light cotton type so its comfortable. We normally splice the ends of the rope to keep it together.

The guy came back really quick, £18.90 for DHL, not bad, £49 for the rope. so £67.90 all in for 65ft. XE gives that as €85, so I would expect just under €90 on paypal exchange rate. ~€15 per 11ft, if split in 6, doesnt seem bad.

What sort of price would you be getting it at Emmet? Have you used normal fibre rope? does the cotton make a big difference? I usually wear very light manual labour "gripper" gloves during workouts anyway, but dunno if you could wear them using ropes.

Roper- would you have any other mates in the classes etc interested in getting some? It would be a bit of bother messing around meeting people just for ~€15 each time. Not sure how much I would want, I planned on maybe hanging a long bit on a tree in a remote place, and maybe some on a bar at home, or possibly on a fixing in the attic.

It depends on the quanity tbh as i can see if there's some old stuff lying around the training space or the last time I got some it cost me 100 sterling for 10m

Cheers Emmet, I am just going to go ahead and get it on ebay, doesn't cost that much and I can't wait to give it a go, and don't want to put you to any hassle.

    Rubadub,

If it's that cheap I'd take more. The quotes I was getting were really bad but they were from the US. You can get specialty hooks and grips from sailing supply stores. Take this to mail and we'll chat. komartialarts@gmail.com
