    What's wrong with Michael Jackson?!

That was my first 'Now' as well!

    Some serious classics on that!!!

Tasmin Archer, John Secada, Go West, Simple Minds, Richard Marx, INXS, Crowded House, Erasure, East 17, The Shamen!!! All super tunes.

    I can't remember which I got first

    Metallica - Master of Puppets

    or

Iron Maiden - Somewhere in Time

My Uncle brought me to a Iron Maiden gig in the point shortly after I was about 9. Still remember the Giant Eddie that came up from the stage, it was ace. There was a lot of booing when Bruce brought out the Union Jack. I was a little headbanger.

Jacko - Bad, '88, aged 10. Who born in 78/79's first album wasn't Bad by Michael Jackson?

Oh yeah! I felt too "cool" to buy Now! albums at that stage but I still borrowed that particular one from my next-door neighbour for ages and ages. Horrible horrible stuff tbh. The 90s sucked for pop music, the 80s was miles better...

Same for me, why did that album appeal to us all so much? Can't remember what the first single was, probably zig and zag or something.

I also had Now 23, I think its the only one I ever bought, remember listening to it incessantly on holidays with my folks. My poor parents, I actually feel liking ringing them up to apologise for putting them through it.

Having millions of older siblings I didn't buy an album til Urban Hymns by The Verve

    how cool am I?? :P

    the answer is not very!!

Mine was 'Parklife' by Blur, aged 12! Think I'd gotten a couple of Dustin albums as presents :P

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 37,214 ✭✭✭✭Dudess

I didn't start buying singles til I got into indie. It would have been an EP by some shoegazing band.

Technically it was Do The Bartman by Bart Simpson in 1990, but I don't think that counts because firstly I was only 6 or 7 and hardly had a taste for music at that age. Secondly I bought it not for it's musical merits but for the fact that it was Bart Simpson singing...

The first real album I bought was one of those Now.. albums. It would've been about 1993 or so. It featured Gabrielle and 2Unlimited. Rock on.

    The Cult: Electric...Think I was 14 or 15.

    Best of U2 1990-2000. I was 11.
I probably had bought one or two singles by some travesty of a pop act previous to that, but I can't remember whom.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 111 ✭✭crowdcontrol

Def Leppard - Hysteria ....... ouch!:o Followed quickly by Appetite for Destruction - GNR..... Why couldn't that be my first! Both on tape age 10.....F**k, cant believe Appetite was 87, god I'm getting old....

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 1,420 ✭✭✭JaneyMc

First record I bought was the Simpsons, it had do the Bartman on it. It was also on Vinyl. Apparently I saved for weeks for it with my pocket money. I think my parents just bought it for me though considering I only got like 20p a week.

The first cd I bought, well I bought 3 together, TLC - Crazy, Sexy, Cool , Alanis Morrisette - Jagged Little Pill and some Tony Fenton crap...

    *nervously raises hand*

First album bought for me: Soundgarden - Superunknown

First album I bought: Nirvana - In Utero

First single I bought: Prodigy - No Good (or whatever it was called)

At least I think that's right, don't know why people remember the first album they bought.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 40 ClarenceOveur

lol first ep was do the Bartman also. I didn't know how to work my dad's record player, so it was a t the slow speed and I couldn't figure out why Bart wasn't singing it right!

Also, Bad by Jacko on tape!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 420 ✭✭KrazeeEyezKilla

First album was Foo Fighters debut in June 1998 when I was 12. Luckily I had an older brother so I didn't have to buy much until I was about 16.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 37,214 ✭✭✭✭Dudess

Actually Earthhorse makes a good point:

The first album bought for me was Bad by Michael Jackson
The first album bought by me (for me) was Some Friendly by The Charlatans (in 1991).

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 19,106 ✭✭✭✭TestTransmission

First album bought for me (thanks mammy) was Morning Glory - Oasis

I then proceeded to buy definitely maybe.

Wow, your taste in music takes me back to my brothers' bedrooms in the 80s. And they managed to convert me so I was listening to The Smiths, Pixies and The Cure at 11 (while also liking Kylie).

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 399 ✭✭estariol

Michael Jackson Bad when i was 5. not only that i bought a black market copy, showing pirate tendancies from an early age.

cant remember my first single i generally went for albums

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 530 ✭✭✭Placid_Casual

First album I bought was Automatic For The People by REM when I was about 12. Was a big REM fan in my teens, I think at one stage I had more albums by them (most of their back catalogue) than albums by other bands put together. Still my favourite band ever.

Think my first single was a single Zig & Zag had one Christmas. Was it called Christmas No.1 or something? Misplaced it years ago.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,289 ✭✭✭Howard the Duck

First album bought For me was the "grease original soundtrack". I still have it but i think it's scratched...probably from over play :)

    Yep, 1990. It was quality.

    On second thoughts, maybe not...

Wow, Dustin's voice is way deeper and younger. It's way funnier now that it's a lot more grating.

The part that went "Oh what fun it is to ride on a one-horse open TOILET" always had me in hysterics...

Kind of the same thing with me and my sisters in the eighties. They had me listening to the Cure, Bowie, Neil Young, Led Zeppelin etc when i was 10/11..

Best thing that ever happened to me.

I bought Monster Hits on casette as my first ever purchase, but it was followed shortly by the following questionable album:

    Pet Shop Boys - Behaviour

    :(
