The Grand is decent, some laughs in it

    http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0427998/

    www.thegrandthemovie.com

Edited your OP btw. No asking for where to find movies online allowed on boards.

I thought The Grand was awful.

    No good ones.

shame, you'd think with all the popularity over the past few years they would have made a few by now

Meah I liked the grand. David Cross is a genius, and some of it was funnyish. Nothing special but worth one watch.

recent ones I've seen are the grand... meh and Lucky you.... lol at the cheese...

What seems semi interesting with Vince Vaughan is the series TILT .. I've watched 2 episodes from the makers of rounders and it has a few moments....

Love the one where Vince fills his str8 vs donks set of 2's..... he says " you have a set of 2's ...they are like a mackeral in the moonlight....one minute they are nice and shiney and next minute they stink"

The Grand is very funny imo, well worth a watch if your into that Arrested Development/Curb Your Enthusiasm type stuff.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 993 ✭✭✭bigslick

+1 for TILT. Have them on dvd and are great entertainment to watch. The makers actually understand poker and it comes through. Done by ESPN, so has credability i guess.

Also its Michael Madsen, not Vince Vaughan :P

not sure if there is such a thing as a good poker movie, yet, but for some good entertainment with poker related goodness.. "the cincinnati kid" and "the sting" must be mentioned..

I saw a movie called "All in" - the story of a girl winning tournaments by fishing and rivering straights every sigle time! If a non-poker player watches the movie and then starts playing poker, happy days for all of us :)

    All in: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0475217/ :D

Agreed - it's fairly brutal to be honest - but the cast aren't bad etc. Depends on what type of comedy you're into I suppose . . .

yeah saw this too..... low budget tripe I thought.... but good point about the poker

I'd imagine the reason why there are no decent poker movies are that the regular public would not understand why a well played poker hand was any good but a Royal flush vs four ace they understand! There are probably some low budget films done by people who understand the game and aren't under pressure to make something "entertaining" that the studios are going to like.

Are we talking films with poker in them or poker films. Plenty of decent films with a few poker clips in. Does anyone here watch Hustle? Some really bad poker scenes in that. Good programme all the same though.

Was really talking about poker films but either or at this stage . . .

high roller was OK, Michael Imperioli (spelling?) portrays him quite well I thought. The book, the Man behind the Shades was class - worth a read imo

TILT is a brilliant show, its a shame it got cancelled. A lot of the pros complained about it.

You played that like you had a pair.

No I played it like that becasue I HAVE a pair.

    Brilliant line

I'm watching Maverick at the moment, I remember watching it when I was younger and trying to figure out if other people did the same things when they were playing cards for matches (they did), I wonder why I'm a degenerate now :D

The girl in the grand is hot. There are some hilarious lines in an average film. 'It might be pleasant to discuss strategy in a quiet social setting, we could use our vouchers for the same restaurant at the same time and sit at the same table'
    'I like chinese' '...people?'

  • Moderators, Science, Health & Environment Moderators Posts: 9,054 Mod ✭✭✭✭mewso

High Roller is not a poker movie. Good or bad there is virtually zero poker in it and unfortunately not that much insight into Stuey really.

The Grand good or bad does have poker in it as does Rounders and Lucky You. Lucky You when I think about it is the only movie that kind of took the traditional sports movie type approach. Didn't work that well but it's mildly entertaining.

Deal with Burt Reynolds is out on DVD soon. Str8 to DVD mind you so I expect a masterpiece.
