TreadMill vs Cross Trainer

Anyone know which is more beneficial?

I hate using the TreadMill and just can't seem to focus or get into a rhythm while using it.

I can do about 45 mins on the Cross Trainer at about 55-75RPM without much hassle.

Which will give me more cardio benefit. Will 45 Mins be beneficial or should I increase to an hour.

I have started to go about 6 days a week.

I am looking to lose about 2 stone.

My diet is quiet good - A lot of Fruit / Water etc.

I'd defo go with the Cross Trainer

Will work your arms more, and nowhere near as bad on the knees as a treadmill

What program on the Cross Trainer are you using?

I'd suggest using one like Hills. One that varies the resistance. You adapt to Manual mode to easily so wont get as much out of it

    As for more benefit, input=output

I wouldnt go for an hour. If yer lastin that long the intensity musnt be too high. You should stick with 30 mins. when it gets easier, increase resistance, not time

and 6 days is loads. 4 good workout sessions a week should be plenty

    Do some weights too

    Post up your diet

Read the stickies at the top and work out the target to stick to

    Fat loss = calorific deficit

A lot of people advise against using treadmills, especially cheap & nasty ones, do you know what model it is? Do you know what model the crosstrainer is.

If your aim is losing 2 stone of FAT, then defintitely take up weights, I would value them far more than cardio for fat loss. But since you are going 6 times a week you can do both since you will need rest days.

As rubudub said, Do weights aswell, and the cardio you do is not that important once you are getting your heart rate going, usually if you enjoy it you can work harder on it. the higher the heart rate the more calories you'll burn...

Then don't use it. Simple. You won't benefit from something you hate doing. I jog outside, but in the gym I'll always use the cross-trainer. I can't abide the treadmill.

And yeah, use weights. Extra muscle burns fat, as does lifting weights. Win-win situation.

Personally I find the cross trainer more awkward than the treadmill. It is like trying to tango and mosh at the same time i.e. dosen't feel right.

    +1 I just can't do the crosstrainer co-ordination thing at all :o

But tbh Op I would go with whichever you prefer / find easier. Once you're pushing yourself it doesn't really matter imho.

I think the cross trainer is better as a workout but i prefer the treadmill. I just cant get in to rythme as easy.

45 min to an hour is grand if your doing low intensity for fat loss.

Id stick at at least 45 min if your doing low intensity.
The other option you have is to do HIT.

Defo the cross trainer. When you run on the treadmill its really forced or something - i think your better of just going for a jog outside of the gym. An hour on the cross trainer will be too much. Just add to your incline and resistance gradually each time you go to the gym and keep the same 45 minute workout. Add some free weights time into the equasion and you'll be loosing weight in no-time.
