Query regarding weight loss

The national Tug of War championships are kicking off this Sunday with the 600kg, thats an average of 75kg a man. As you can image its hard to find 8 men averaging 75kg. Our club are 15kg over at the moment. We have been fasting and running to get down to the weight down for the weigh-in on Sunday morning at 11.
My question is what would be the best food to take after the weigh-in so that we would be in the best condition possible for the competition which starts at 1 o’clock. Some kind of high energy food maybe? We had sandwiches before and they just lie on your stomach when its empty and can make you sick for the competition.
    Any suggestions? Thanks! www.irishtugofwar.com

Figs or jaffa cakes would be good, plus energy drinks like lucozade..

    I LOVE TUG OF WAR!.

    Right that said..

I'd go along with what Paul just said re. the Jaffa Cakes and figs.

Don't forget to stay hydrated and rest for probably two days before the pull.

As a side not, I was chatting to my parish priest and a guard in the station about forming a local team. I pulled in the army and on every trip oversea's - we always won the inter-contingent comps :D

Bad photo, but here's an inter-contingent team I was in pulling IN SAND against the Israeli Defence Forces in Netanya, Israel a few year's ago.

Tug of War is by far the toughest sport I've ever been involved in.

Thanks for the tips. I suppose it is important to stay hydrated alright but water adds to the weight too.
Nice to see you've got a bit of interest in the sport. That looks like a heavy team that you were in. Suitable for the catchweight.
Most people do not realise that the sport involves a lot of weight loss and decipline. People think you need big fat men.
Clonmany from Co. Donegal won the world title at 640 kilo indoor last Feb, Nationwide filmed a nice peice about them, this clips gives you an idea of whats involved in the training and the nutrition http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Qze5saeWmjQ

New teams are very welcome. We have a novice league this year to give new teams a bit of competition between themselves. Affiliation for a new team is only 150 euro and you are insured at your training ground for that too. All details at http://irishtugofwar.com/find-a-club/affiliate-your-club/
