I have being doing the 3 number irish lotto draw in bookies for a few years now and adding up total of wins i have had with this method of £1 on 3 numbers = £600 pay out , my winnings runs in about £5,or 6000 . My friend also does same 3 number game and has had roughly same sucess as me . I keep to the same 3 selctions ,of 3 different numbers, in all 3 draws .

I haven't a clue wtf all that waffle means :pac:

    3 from 7 from 45 = 404/1

    4 from 7 from 45 = 4256/1

You have to be a real sap to do these kind of bets.

I don't do them, but €1 a week is hardly gonna break the bank

Exactly, a euro a week for the laugh is all I'd be doing.

Have never played the national lotto, but would do this.

You don't have to break the bank to be a sap. And I don't think there's a fixed stake of €1. My understanding is that you can put what you like on these bets.

I'd rather see people put their few quid on a sports bet each week where the bookie's edge is generally less than on these random number bets.

I'd rather people continue to do this bets, in fact i'd rather more did it.

The bookie has a greater edge here, if he lost it, he would need to make it up in sports markets

Pounds. May be the UK lotto. More numbers in it.

Can't be. IIRC it is Illegal for organisations other than the UK National Lottery to use the results of their balls draw for the settlement of bets other than those which are in the offical pool.

In other words they cant do it!

Now that's just selfish. I'm trying to be a philanthropist. :)

I came across this thread this morning,i never new you could bet on the lotto. And im currently working on a blog (not complete yet) on on an experiment on beating the bookies in one month. Anyway I was able to get the results from the last 30 draws and i worked out (took a while) the probibilty of each numbers and combinations coming up.
so i placed 2 E4 bets on 2 numbers coming up at 35/1 in 7 ball draw
and 1 E4 bet on 3 single numbers coming up at 5/1 in 7 ball draw

    1 combination came up = 144 Euro
1 single bets came up = 24 Euro

    144 + 24 = 168E - 20 = 148E Profit

Im def. doing this bet from now on! :D

Yeah, I made quite a lot of money from it. A few hundred thousand. But I think the lotto organisers and the bookies were on to me and they hired private investigators to check me out. They tapped my phones and bugged my house and car. They even tried to poison me with what I think was polonium-210.

So for a few weeks I laid low. They probably thought they had intimidated me but I was really planning my big coup. I hired a crack team of homeless people to go around Ireland placing lots of small bets on the lotto in every bookie they could find. They literally were a crack team - they were so coked up it took them much longer than expected. I had to dock a few hang sangwiches from their wages.

Anyway Saturday rolled around and I nailed the numbers big time. Sunday was spent collecting all my winnings. A cool quarter mill. I was in disguise obviously but someone must have known because as I was coming back into Dublin, two SUVs tried to force me off the road. They shot out my tyres too but luckily I was right beside the airport. Me being me, I always carry my passport so I ran into the terminal building, paid for a flight ticket in cash and moved to Canada. Now I'm living happily and peacefully here, ripping off the Canuck lottery.

Did anyone else ever think its "weird" how pairs 4,5 see to come out so often together?

I thought it was weird untill I wrote a computer programme to calc the number of pairs, it turns out that of the ~8.1 million irish lotto combinations, 52.7% of them contain a pair. So on average a pair should come out in just over half the draws, so its actually not weird at all that so many pairs come out.

If the bookies offered an evens bet every week on a pair NOT coming out, alot of fools in the bookies would probably take it up, but the bookies would have a ~5% edge and be in profit in the long run.

Just thought Id share that info with some fellow lotto nerds, as I am quiet happy with myself having worked it all out!

A bit harsh. Not much harm in sticking a quid on your birthday. Hardly breaking the bank

Not sure but are people forgetting 1 major factor here?
When you do the Lotto, you have a chance of winning from 3 numbers up to the Jackpot inclusive with your 6 numbers, the more numbers out, the higher the payout.
When you do 3 numbers in the Bookies, you will only win the odds for 3 (as you only picked 3 numbers) so you will get 300/1 x your stake back no more, no less.
There are 2 totally different "bets" whichever way you look at it and whichever way the bookies try to sell it.
