    Hi all,

Did a search but didn't find anything - has anyone taken these classes? They look like fun (in a hellish sort of way)!

    www.bootcampireland.com

    Thanks!

was out for a jog earlier, spotted the inductees to bootcamp being put through their paces.

stopped and watched for 5 mins

shuttle runs, cicuit for strength and core

looked like the people taking part were feeling the effects - which is the main thing i suppose.

its more or less paying for a personal instructor. but sharing them with 30 other people!!

I started my second session with them last week. It's difficult enough, but rewarding and generally good fun. Instructors are on a rotation so some sessions are harder than others. There's no option to try out one session, so maybe plan to watch a session and then decide if it's for you?

I believe militaryfitness.ie allow you to try a class for free..

i tried out militaryfitness, but didnt really enjoy it much. i had heard of bootcamp ireland from a bunch of people that i work with, but wanted to do a trial, so did one in miliaryfitness, but after a few weeks, i didnt really enjoy it, and wasnt really being pushed.. i like training with others so i can pace myself against them, and be motivated, so i decided to join Bootcamp Ireland, as all my mates in work have been going for ages and still love it! Its excellent! I really love it now. the classes are all different, and the instructors are all Army and Air Corps too! The group of people are sound in the class that i do and to be honest, I have never felt fitter or more upbeat since I joined it! I'd say join in for sure. they do trips away too, which is a good way to get to know the others in Bootcamp. they went to portugal last month surfing (i couldnt go:() but im going to go on the activity weekend to kerry with them in a few weeks! they have a good website but i am sure you have already seen it.. www.bootcampireland.com. As far as i know, they have been running for a few years now, and getting better!

Wanted to do bootcamp last summer never got round to joining up, few people I work with do it and think it's great but the stuff they talk about doesn't really sound that great. I might look into the military fitness one just for a bit of something different for the rest of the summer.

I joined in Limerick in july and now I'm totally addicted!
It's great fun, there's a great team atmosphere and the sessions are really varied.
The most important thing is that they keep you motivated which means you get a lot more out of it than you would at a gym.

I'm trying to think of something amusing that by the end of reading it would suggest that I think you work for Boot Camp Ireland but can't come up with anything.

I'll get back to you when I've thought of something...

A few of the boys on the team done it! Said it's better than the owl footy training! Not sure I'd be able for it! I'd say you'd be in fine shape if you went to all d sessions..

My mate did it, they put him in great shape but then he had to go off to Kosovo afterwards. Not worth it if you ask me I'd just go to the gym or for a run you tend not to have to go to global hotspots afterwards with those.

    What are Global Hotspots?

Yeah plus I heard once you sign up for one of these bootcamps that they make you stay with them for ages and you can't get out of the contract. Then you end up in Chad.

Ah, good! Do you think they will call up to my house and take me off the chair while I'm watching the match?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,191 ✭✭✭narwog81

and the best bit is that they pay you to do it!

Im gonna put it in the hands of the gods! If I win this competition, I shall do it!! Gotta be as fit as a fiddle is me!!

hey , i have been doing bootcamp since May 2009 and find it brillent , the classes are great workout , some harder than other depending on the instructer and the craic is great , the social scean in our group is great.
the only disadvantage is that during the winter we are over in East Point which is not the greatest place as there is not much to work with but the saturday classes keeps the body used to the running. Most of the instructers are first rate but like most places there are crap ones , but since they move most days you are only going to get the crap ones now and again

Hey...was just wondering what sort of level of fitness do you need going into this? At the moment I am very unfit and don't want to die out there :D Was thinking of leaving it go until I lose some more weight...but was wondering just how much exercise should you be used to going in there?

I've worked with 2 of the instructors and have been on the recieving end of some of their beasting sessions.

Although the Bootcamp stuff wouldn't quite be the same as how they train people in work, there's no better folk to get you in shape.

I went to bootcamp for the first time last night. It was really hard but at your own pace. They made us jog alot which i found hard and had to fall back to walking but I found the press ups, squats, lunges etc easier than people who were jogging faster!

I'm going again on Thursday (and not just because i paid up front!)

It's a challenge and I aim that by the end of this set of lessons I'll be able to keep up with the rest of the class!

I've been doing it since October of last year and to be honest I'm not sure what I think of it. If you're near a gym that doesn't cost an arm and a leg the money would probably be better spent there. Hell if you're near a park you can do the same thing for free!!! Your fitness levels do increase after a few weeks but you could probably say the same about any fitness regime? Some of the instructors are better than others - some are too easy, some get it just right and some push you maybe a little bit too much to the point where you're possibly doing more harm than good. I'll be retiring from it when my subscription runs out in a few weeks and doing it myself - FOR FREE! :D

    Hi,

I am of a good fitness level. Would bootcamp be of benefit to me to get really fit?
    Anyone tried Crossfit.ie?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 3,049 ✭✭✭discus

A mate of mine attends one of these "Military" fitness classes weekly. Says it's good, but it doesn't look like there is much progression, i.e. once you get fit, you're just going with the motions. Still, good if it gets you to that stage.

I've never done bootcamp but my sister does so I have an idea of what they get up to. It would be fine aslong as you were getting in some strength training also but bootcamp by itself is going to be limited.

I'm a member of crossfit.ie and you will never be going through the motions like discus said above. The sky is literally the limit you will never run out of things to get better at and you will always to be pushed by the coaches to improve. It will get you to higher levels of athletism imo than bootcamp.

I did Bootcamp for a good while and now do Crossfit style workouts as part of my training plan and I would say Crossfit is definitely the way to go.

Also, everything about the Crossfit.ie guys is more "serious" about actual fitness if you know what I mean. They'll look at nutrition with you while Bootcamp will organise a night out on the beer :)

I've a friend who does bootcamp regularly and it's grand for someone who just needs a kick up the arse in order to do a decent work out, but if you're genuinely interested in changing your lifestyle and learning more about your health and fitness then I think crossfit would be the better option.

Go to crossfit. Your first session is free as far as I know anyway so you give it a go. The whole set up is great & staff and clients are very nice.

    Hi,

I've just started doing Fitforever Bootcamp on Dun Laoghaire Pier (east) as 1st Class was free!! On Tues & Thurs 6.30pm

Really good workout, mixed classes & personal tips from the trainer Johnny

A few mates of mine play for a team who have taken on one of the bootcamp-type companies to give them some conditioning work. These lads would be great for 90 mins of a game, but the bootcamp sessions give them something to think about.

I go to www.keepfit.ie and find it fantastic- it's been the single most effective fitness tool for me EVER.. the first half of the class is generally running of some sort (intervals, endurance runs, mixed drills that kind of thing), then some form of strength training after that, and core work at the end.. the advanced class is indoors in the gym and is crossfit style- tabata circuits etc..

couldnt recommend it highly enough- but they only have 3 locations- ballsbridge, lucan and bray- so unless you live near one of those locations, it's not much use! The trainers dont change, so they get to know you well and more imporantly your strengths and weaknesses.. its 120 for 8 weeks, or 24 classes. I love the outdoor element of it i have to say- getting the fresh air beats the gym any day. There's a social element to it, but we NEVER go for pints after class.. i coudl think of nothign worse. We have a nite out every 2 months or so, awards and all that kinda thing..
