Can it be done? How? (M/Waxing)

Alright strange one. I've got to wax the old upper body for a work thing within the next week... I've had it done once or twice before but its always been done for me either by a professional or a 'friendly female'. I've since hit the single life, didnt realise of the 'waxing-repercussions', I've nobody to do it for me and dont know how to do it myself, and dam if I'm going to pay somebody for something like that out of my own pocket (for some reason the job wont supply the petty cash neither).

So two questions... is it even possible for a person to wax their own chest? as would you reckon a person would have the suppleness to be able to manevoure their body/arms into position to get enough leverage to tear the strip from the centre of their chest?

... and how do you stop those blotchy bits that come up after if you do it wrong? like the ex did last time... and actually in that vein, how long do those blotches last, I may aswell leave enough time before the job in case I do go wrong and am left with a load of them...

I'm hoping none of the ladies will actually know the answer to that!

If you have to get this done for work then they shouldn't be expecting you to pay for it yourself. I'd tell them that it's a professional job paid for by them or not at all, tbh.

Get veet hot wax, stick it in the microwave, you get a temperature stick tha comes with it so you know your not applying it too hot, and away you go.

Would be easier if you do it in front of a mirror.

The blotches sound like ingrown hairs (not sure tho!) so exfoliate them out!

You get a little wipe thing with the veet wax to get the last bits of the sticky wax off.

You shoudl be ok waxing your chest yourself, it can be done..just make sure you're in front of a mirror!

No No No No, for the love of God don't put yourself through that.
Its a completely different ball game waxing yourself, you'll be more hesitant, not get the angles you want and more then likely bruise yourself.
IF you are going to go down the home waxing route you'd be better off having a practice run before the proper first time.
IMO paying to get someone professional to do it is well worth the money.:D

Oh, hot wax is basically wax in a tub, that melts inthe microwave, you apply it, let it dry and actually pull the wax off.

I find it easier than wax strips, and less painful!

Would it be any different practicing on a different part of my body? i.e waxing a lump off the top of my leg for 'practice' or it that skin/hair different?

Less painful I like the sound of that.

Here, is it better to shave beforehand or what? The professional did some pre/post-wax ritual thing involving steam and towels and all this jazz when I got it done there...

The steam towel thing will open your pores...easier to get the hair out and les spainful1

Dont shave...sure there would be no point in waxing then!!

Exfoliate..you can buy an exfoliating body wash inthe shops..it just gets the ingrown hair out - i think..there is also a cream you can get in brazillia that reduces ingorwn hairs if you wanna us that? I have never used it so cant personally recommend.

I dont mean shave then wax straight away, I mean like shave a few days before the waxing so the hairs would be shorter than they are now... ?

Thanks for teaching me about the exfoliating thing!

Id say a week before the waxing..otherwise trim the long hairs :)

Oh Yeah the hair and skin is different in different places, so if you were going to practice it would probably be pointless trying out on say your leg first.
If you are trimming the hair make sure you don't trim too much as the hair won't be long enough to wax then.
As for blotches I have very senstive skin so when i get my legs done they flare up as if I have hives, but it wears off after about an hour, so make sure you have time for any flare-ups to go down.

    Thanks for all the help...

Heres the plan, shave five days before, the hairs should be around 3/4 a CM by waxing... pre-waxing I'll use a hot towel, then that veet ****e that was advised, tear that off fast in the one direction (right? doesnt matter which direction?) and then exfoliate and do all that a day beforehand so theres no blotches...

And remember to stretch the skin as you do it, this means you'll get as many hairs as you can, plus once you rip the strip off it might be an idea to have a cold cloth to press down on it to soften the redness and pain.
    :D

Definately go for the hot wax! The other stuff doesn't work anywhere near as well on short hairs. But you will be lumpy for slightly longer then if you just got it done professionally. I really would recommend going in and getting it done in a professional place. It won't hurt as much and they'll be a lot more used to it then going into Boots with a load of women around and buying hot wax

OP, i HAVE to ask, what's the job?

Before you have at it yourself i suggest you ask all your female friends if they'd give a hand. And, female neighbours. Maybe even try your male friends and neighbours too. As has been said upthread, waxing yourself is tricky and i'd imagine the chest would be awkward to get the angle right when pulling it off.

    g'luck.

    Um...No.

Which is why you should go and get it done by someone who knows what they're doing. If it's a work requirement as you say it is then there should be no question as to who bears the cost. Alternatively, you could claim it as an expense.

    Pull against the hair root.

And have just double checked the name of the wax, its Nair, not veet.

Don't forget IB, it's perfectly fine to pass comment on the appearance of anyone in the workplace etc once thaey are male. :)

In all seriousness, i can only assume it involves some toplessness on behalf on the OP in which case you get what you signed up for mate!

I did assume it was life guarding or stripping of some sort?
I can't think of anything else that might demand a hairless chest, its a very very strange request.
