Right lads thought I'd stick this here.

Anytime i do sit ups or any exercise like it, it doesn't work my abs like it should it hurts my lower back and i usually have to stop before everyone else at training making me look a fool. I've resorted to doing core exercises instead of sit-ups such is the pain i get doing sit ups.

I've had upper back problems been to the physio about a pain in it when i run and she said that it was because my spine was too stiff at the top and gave me some exercises to do before i do any sort of exercise or sport and the top of backs been grand ever since.

Basically what i'm asking is, is there anything i'm doing wrong with sit ups or is my back not strong enough and i should keep going through the pain? Should i go back to my physio and ask her about it?

I was instucted by a particular rugby physio and core specialist to stop doing sit ups..

He stated that they are a very bad exercise as they can cause harm to the neck and back. If you are suffering any sort of pain - Then the no 1 rule generally is - STOP!!!

Sit Ups indirectly work your abs, and work your hip flexers more so. Which has helped my in the past as i had a particular nigling problem with the hip flexor last year!!

I was instructed to work on my core work to work the abs area and I would recommend everyone else...
