I think he can do it.

I think he can do it too, but I think it depends more on how Fed performs not Nadal, I think Rafa will be on the top of his game but I don't know if Fed will be or not. If he is, it could go either way...

I said No because although I think Nadal is on fire, the favourite has to be Fed until he loses it. If there were a few more options in the poll, like a "maybe", or a "Yes, IF" I might have sprung for that.

I went for yes. Haven't been following tennis too much this year but with the way Federer got beaten in Roland Garros things look a little bit more uncertain this year. Should be a good one...

If I had to call the women's I suppose I'd go for Ivanovic. But anytime the quality in the women's looks weak the Williams sisters are a good bet...

Agreed. We all know what to expect from Rafa - he always gives 110% and always seems to be at the top of his game.

For me, it all depends on whether Federer can recapture his form - if he can, then he is still the favourite and I would still back him on grass (even over a peak Nadal).

I would like to see him make history and record a 6th straight Wimbledon triumph.

Djokovic beaten by Safin in straight sets today, big shock as he would have met federer in the semis if they both won.

federer looks to have an easy run to the final now, although if he meets safin he could be in for a shock, just like in 2005!!

I can't see that happen on grass though. If it does, then Federer's powers really ARE on the wane.

If Nadal won, would he become World Number One in the rankings? I don't know how it works, but I'd imagine he can't be far off.

If Nadal wins the tournament Federer has to get to the QF to stay top of the rankings.

    Not counting last year's Wimbledon:

    Federer- 5900
    Nadal- 5055

    Grand slam ranking points:

    W - 1000
    F - 700
    SF - 450
    QF - 250
    R16 - 150
    R32 - 75
    R64 - 35
    R128 - 5

Short answer, probably not. Fed is 1,145 points ahead of Rafa in 2nd. Rankings are calculated on a 52 week rolling basis, so Fed is "defending" the 1,000 points he earned for winning Wimbledon last year, Rafa is defending 700 points earned by losing in the final. If Fed was to go out in the 3rd or 4th round, and Rafa won it, Rafa would take the no.1. Fed would earn just 150 points were he to lose in round 4, in effect "losing" 850 points. Rafa would replace his 700 points from last year with 1,000, gaining 300. Thus Rafa would be world no.1 by 5 points. That's my understanding of it anyway.

Federer certainly looks good enough to get to the semis. It would be great to see Safin hold the form he showed today in beating Djokovic, and be the man opposing Fed in that semi. As for Rafa, he's going to take some beating in his current form.

The ladies rankings are far closer, with Sharapova, Jankovic & Kuznetsova all close enough to take the top spot off Ivanovic, depending on results.

I agree, Nadal is producing some awesome tennis at the moment. Last year final was very close. I think this year Raffa will have the edge on Fed.

    A shame?
It's about time someone else won it.

The papers today seem to think Lleyton Hewitt has a good chance of Beating Fed today. If that happpens, all bets are off.

    Let's go Rafa!

It just has to be another Fed/Nadal final. Last year was great but I really believe this year Nadal is gonna do it. He's in superb form and that crushing win at Roland Garros will be a factor.

He's really improved on grass and he's untouchable on clay. Just need to brush up on the hard court and he could have a go at the Grand Slam!

I really think next year he can make the grand slam.

With Federer looking a bit sloppy at time, & after a health scare earlier on in the year, I do definately think Nadal has to also be a faveroute. But if they do meet in the final, Federer will be champing at the bit to exact revenge for Roland Garros. I rekon its (if they both make the final) going to be an absolute classic

Nadal one step closer to the final after beating Murray in straight sets, no surprise really, although murray is a good player he's not close to the top 3

Federer is serving amazingly well. I know Nadal is too but Federer's accuracy over power and overall game is a joy to watch. I hope he goes on to win it for a sixth, seventh and eighth time breaking Sampras' record and proving he really is greatest player to pick up a racquet.

Nadal was very impressive today. I think Safin could cause Fed some problems,he's looked in good form in Wimbledon.

Easy straight sets win for the Fed here

I've changed my opinion - over the course of the last ten days, I think Nadal will win Wimbledon this year. I think he's the best in the world righ now, to be honest.

Nadal certainly looked like a potential champion against Murray. In many ways I was happy to see Murray put off his pedestal, he was never going to win the title IMO. The Beeb Commentators just made excuses for him too which was frustrating to listen to.

"Oh the last match took it all out of him" etc.

Fact is he's nowhere near Nadal's level and I think they did accept that yet still harped on about his fatigue. The previous day we had heard about his supreme physical conditioning now. Anyhow thats my rant for today, well done Rafa.

Yeah, even if it was tiredness, at that level, you should be able to recover in two days, even after a gruelling match, like monday's.

Although, give it a couple of years, he could be a contender. He's only 21.

4 years from now, the great rivalry could be Nadal/Murray.

I'm not a tennis player so perhaps I don't appreciate the finer points of the game - but I often find I don't enjoy watching the clay-court specialists (on any surface). Nadal is brilliant and I can see and appreciate his talents but I don't find his style enjoyable to watch. That's my problem not his obviously :) Federer on the other hand, in my opinion, plays really 'complete' tennis and is much more enjoyable to watch. Safin also, who obviously isn't at the level Nadal is at, is quite entertaining to watch.

So, while I predicted Nadal to win Wimbledon (and I think he is a class act), I don't really want to see him win.

    Wow, we have contrasting views!

IMO, clay court tennis is the best tennis to watch! And Nadal is a joy to watch especially when he get's into a rhythm like he did yesterday.

I'd agree. I also think Nadal has more to his game than the clay-court basics. He can hit winners on the run from anywhere. His forehand rivals Fed's. He is starting to volley. But it's his appetite to go beyond what a clay-courter can do, that I find impressive.

Cfitz, he's likely to reach his 3rd Wimbledon final in a row, having won queens. Were it not for Fed, he'd have won it at least once (and about to win his 2nd). At what point does he cease to be a Clay-courter? Borg won the French 6 times, would you tar him with the label Clay-Courter?

Well to me he's a clay-courter in style. He plays a baseline running game similar to what Kuerten and Brugera did (I'm too young to remember Borg). I don't like comparing Nadal to Kuerten and Brugera because he is a far more complete player than they were. He is brilliant and he has adapted his game to the other surfaces very well. I'm not suggesting that he doesn't deserve to win Wimbledon, just saying that I find his style less entertaining than a lot of the other players. Calling him a clay court specialist wasn't meant to be an insult!

I think branding him as a clay-couter in style doesn't do him justice. I can't remember seeing a style like his before, its power, precision and pace but then he adds that little extra that amazing spin. Some of the shots defy believe and sometimes even physics! Haha!

There we are the final everyone has been expecting Fed vs Raffa.
I really think Nadal has improved his game on grass and hope he will win it. I don't think Federer has completely recaptured his game. Both of them will have to play their very best game to win this match.

I reckon Nadal will win it in 5 setter classic.

Think about it, if he hadn't been in such poor form at the start of the year he could of taken the Australian Open and the US Open could of spelt a Grand Slam this year!!!
