I'm currently using it. I have noticed accessing my gmail account has improved significantly regarding speed. Also graphic resolution and efficiency of use a big thumbs up too. Started using it when living in the UK and have always stood by it. Number one. Only use IE for messenger and finding Firefox to install...:D

Maybe it's the Beta version I have.

it has severely cut down on the time it takes to process javascript and AJAX hence why gmail loads quicker as it's an AJAX site

    damn

Mozilla says in order for the record to be legit only 1 download per PC.

Also for the record a download means a complete download of the setup file: updates arent being counted by Guinness apparently.

Are they counting by ip address? Those on dynamic ip can just reset their modems to get a new ip

OK... when does it start! what timezone is this record relating to??

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,875 ✭✭✭ShoulderChip

i dont know its driving me mad, when will we find out mozilla?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,593 ✭✭✭Soundman

I reckon it will be 5am our time at the earliest since the record would (I imagine) be monitored from the USA.

Just had a look at their contact details, California nearer to 07:00 GMT (08:00 IST)

For the record I believe it needs to be 24 hours in one timezone.

I was close enough. You knew what I meant. Pedant! :p

:) I hope their servers (& network) are up to it!

Probably not. But once all the US nutjob fans get their e-paws on their copy the server should stabilise somewhat. Especially by the time I get around to downloading it.

i signed up i think on that page and they said they would send an email to remind you.

I def find a big difference between ff3 and ff2, much faster especially with gmail. Also, I love the "Awesome" address bar.

From a tech site TechWeb reports:
Mozilla VP of engineering Mike Schroepfer claims that Firefox 3 is 9.3x faster than Microsoft Internet Explorer 7 and 2.7x faster than Firefox 2 in terms of JavaScript performance. In terms of Gmail message load time, he claims Firefox 3 is 6.8x faster than IE7 and 3.8x faster than Firefox 2. And he says Firefox 3 beats Apple's Safari, which is also faster than Firefox 2.

wasnt sure myself but I did a map search for mozilla and that turned up California, which is PST (or -8 GMT) so expect launch time to be 0800 GMT.

    So in 20 minutes basically.

Screw it by the time anyone reads this: Its out.

edit: or not.... maybe 3PM GMT instead

10AM PDT, is 6PM this evening for us. So, given the servers will more than likely be overloaded, you're probably as well to wait till tomorrow morning.

I'd also say there'll be unofficial mirrors popping up all over the place. If you do get it from one of them, and want to be counted for the record too, then make sure to re-download from the official source again by 6PM tomorrow evening.

Must remember to do that tonight. Very impressed so far, FF2 was so unbelievably slow browsing boards - felt like I was using an old Pentium to browse.

Yeah was wondering about that, went to Mozilla to download it and it only had 2 up. Oh well, only another 40 minutes I suppose.

Reckon people downloading via 3 broadband won't all count either. AFAIK they use a limited set of IP addresses.

Good luck trying to download it anytime soon, mozilla's servers are are in bits.

Wait till everyone in America goes to bed. Though, given it'll be mostly nerds downloading this today, that might not happen.

    We're not quite ready yet!

We're just as excited as you are for our upcoming release, but we're still putting the finishing touches on Firefox 3: preparing the new mozilla.com website, getting our severs ready for downloads, and doing our final pre-launch checks. You can follow our progress if you'd like!
The files in this directory are - for now - only meant to be used by our testers. Downloading them directly can harm our ability to distribute Firefox efficiently, and will also not be counted as part of our attempt to set a Guiness World Record for the most software downloads in a day.
If you'd like to be notifed the minute that we launch, please go to sign up for Download Day. Or just head over to getfirefox.com on Tuesday, June 17th after 10am PDT.

Is there an official mozilla run tracker?

No, but what you just posted I have doubts whether it's genuine or not.

Edit: Just checked the file, it's the beta

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,517 ✭✭✭axer

    I downloaded from here:
    ftp://releases.mozilla.org/pub/mozil...0/win32/en-GB/

I cant see beta or release candidate written anywhere.

    EDIT: I found RC3 somewhere.
