Watch the video by the founder. The real benefit is via SMS. You text a message to Twitter, they send it to all your 'followers' - i.e. your mates (they have to be signed up too). Brilliant, I say!

How many servers have you running boards.ie ? Was it a router that caused the outage or a server?

IIRC, they're using a Linux software load balancer so if that went, it wouldn't be expensive to replace. Last time I checked, they have 5 webservers and 2 db servers. There's a list of servers here

I'm sure if you donate a few grand (15k or so would probably do it) that boards could put in place some redundancy for you.
