Well, it's been a while since I last got inked but I can't remember anyone saying anything about not working out until it's "healed". It should be covered with a plaster anyway for a while, until it's scabbed over.

not untill it scabs over, and then dont strech the skin in a way that would crack the scab before it's ready to do it it's self

Its fine I trained the whole way through getting my back done, 6+ plus hrs sessions twice monthly and trained the next day. Just make sure its washed and then you rub whatever cream your tattooist reccomends on it and it'll be fine. Might hurt a small bit though if its a day old etc.

Tough choice - there is lots of varied advice out there. General advice is to keep tattoo dry... but as some posters have pointed out, their tattoos survived a bit of sweat.

A friend of mine had a tattoo done during a road trip to Spain on his motorbike. The tattoo faded in parts immediately - he reckons it was the sweat - I reckon it was that combined with friction from the boots...

I had my last tattoo on Saturday and have held off on really busting a sweat since - better safe than sorry IMHO.

If you are going to train - I'd say avoid working up a heavy sweat, don't wear anything that will rub off the tattoo and avoid stretching the skin (as pointed out) during the session and you should be fine.

Ah listen, tattoos were getting done by tribes 1,000's of years ago. Do you think they were sitting around worrying about keeping them dry.
Anyway, the people doing it will surely be able to advise you???

cheers for all the helpful comments bar the last one, they use to get their tattoos done with sticks and eat each other, so dont know what your point was, anyway didn't train the day of tattoo, but 7 mile run today, kept it easy so as not to sweat too much, there was no problem

    nope..it will fall off:)
my tattoo guy advised me to not exercise or sweat until the tattoo was fully healed as sweat can cause infection and can potentially damage the tattoo.

I have a few tatoos and was advised to keep it dry and not train and did with the first 3 but the main one on the top of my back I didn't look after it the same and trained with it but kept it clean but you can see a difference in the tattoo - it has faded quiet quickly and looks older than the rest!
Although it could be just to do with your own skin if other people have had no problems
