Good trainers (as in runners)

I am looking to buy a good pair of trainers. The main use would be walking and maybe a bit of jogging. I will be also wearing them while hiking in the Grand Canyon and Yosemite National Park this summer, so they will need to be lightweight, super comfy and with good grip. If they were made of a breathable fabric, all the better.

Can anyone recommend a good brand/type? I tried to get some help in a couple of sports shops last weekend, but the sales asst didn't have a clue. Any advice appreciated!

P.s. Not too worried about cost, but don't fancy spending >€150 either.

for a pair good for hiking/running I'd go for some kind of trail runnner.

Salomon are good, have as couple of pairs myself. great outdoors have them and wiggle.co.uk. you can get gore tex but sounds like you need a standard pair to me. XA pro would probably suit best, super comfy with toe bumpers etc, fit is a little narrow though so try them on properly

Otherwise nike acg or north face at 53 degrees north in blnach or carrickmines would be fine imo.

shop assistants in both great outdoors and 53 degrees are pretty helpful and won't steer you too far wrong.

I've worn Nike ACG in the english lakes and in Nepal, they are fantastic.

I also like salomon, but think for wht you asked, the Nike's are tough to beat.

I've a pair of ACGs and they are very comfortable etc. I got them in the Nike Outlet in Kildare Village, only cost €40 IIRC. I should have got two pairs!

Why not take a trip down to Amphibian King recommended by most runners here. Get a free gait analysis and expert advice. Give them a call on 01 2761525. They should sort you out. Best of luck with it sounds like a nice trip.
