Serious Depression after History......

At the end of the exam I was rushing and was writing a little bit after my super-intendant said pens down..... So he came over to me and said 'Hurry up and seal that.' So I did picked up my pictures and left. I just got home and found the short answer sheets inside my pictures. :(

Is there anything I can do like the super-intendant didn't remind us or anything........ All help would be appreciated, I just don't know what do do like I filled the booklet but the most I can get is 72.5%

I'm afraid there's no way on earth they'll take it - after all you've had hours to alter it. :(

This isn't really gonna have any affect on you anyway. You can still do higher level history next year if you really want to. The junior cert is just a contest for bragging rights really.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 709 ✭✭✭tracker-man

first off, sorry to hear that. I really am, that is the ultimate of bad luck. The chances are the exams are already sent off, but i would bring in the sheet tomorrow anyway and if you can get the examiner alone, ask him is there anything if can do and plead wit him. Examiners are following rules too remember. Maybe it can be sent off separately? I really don't know but if i was in your shoes, thats what i would do. The jc isn't important in the long run and as someone said, if you want to continue honours history, thats no problem. I would bring in the sheet anyways, show it to your teacher.

Not the examiner's fault! You should have made sure yourself you had it in there!

Agree, but in fairness if it was as the OP describes, then its understandable. I found myself scribbling notes on the question sheet (which includes the short questions) even though really i shouldn't have. Easy to forget when you're rushing and under pressure by the super intendant.

I'm pretty sure examiners are meant to remind you to put all sheets which have exam work on it into the folder.

I doubt you'll be able to get it marked since you could have altered it by now. Knowing you probably haven't but they're the rules of the state exams etc. You could bring it back in tomorrow and ask the examiner if there's anything they can so.

If all else fails when your exam results come out remember you can only get the 72%, most teachers will remember this as well so it wont negatively affect you in them placing you in honors or pass for the LC.

Hard luck anyway man, this is why I check that I have all items in my folder 3 times before sealing it, even check then after sealing it lol.

I feel really sorry for u i cant imagine how u feel but u must feel sick! Hopefully ur supervisor might be able to do something 4 u but it doesnt look good.:( At the end of the day it is only ur JC and not your LC but I know that it doesnt help!

Prob be a good idea to inform your school, maybe to make the principal just so they're aware of the situation!

I know but I have been really careful in all my exams to make sure I had it all in the sheet!
But he didn't remind us and there were no toggles to make sure the sheet stayed in place. I had writen 12 pages of writing in under 2 hours I was really stressed and teh intendant standing over me was not in the slightest bit helpful. But Like he saw me walk out with the papers and he said nothing :(
Just to tell you all I'm very honest and I already know all my answers on the shorts were right so I have no need to alter them nor would I find it honest.

To tell you how I feel when I saw it in my bag I punched the wall and took the skin off my knuckles. History is my best subject as well.

Thought this was the LC forum, my bad...

As people have said - don't fret it. You can still do honours next year, no decent teacher would deprive you.

Well they'd still wanns see a good grade in fairness, not going to allow it if you fail....which you prob won't:)

I feel so bad for ya bud.I hope you get away with it.Don't change anything though or write anything you did't in the exam.Good luck OP

What are you hoping he gets away with?!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 555 ✭✭✭Smartly Dressed

Keep the answer sheet for next year anyway in case your teacher might want to see it.

You will also be able to work out the grade you should have got when the marking schemes are available on the net!

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 23 Valin

I know I got all the answers on the sheet right so I have no reason to cheat. It's just annoying how 3 years of hard work can get washed away by an impatient super-intendant and a small mistake :(

eh.. your junior cert has nothing to do with what subjects you can/cant do for the LC, you decide, it's your life and your exam.

No teacher/school can stop you from doing history if you failed it for the JC.

Valin: It's the junior cert. Relax, take a deep breath, and chill. The JC has no major effect on your life, It's just there to get you used to state exams before the leaving. Concentrate on the Leaving and you'll be fine :)

I know still thats an easy 27.5% down the drain because of a tiny mistake that has no basis on how much work I put in.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,440 ✭✭✭✭Piste

I'm really sorry to hear that Valin, it must be very upsetting after putting in work for three years, you have every right to feel frustrated and annoyed. Bringing in the sheet to the examiner tomorrow can't do any harm, but I honestly wouldn't get my hopes up, it's highly unlikely that they could do anything. I'd say your best bet is to just hold onto your short answer sheet and show it to your teacher/parents if they question a lower than expected grade in history. I know you must be kicking yourself now, but honestly by the end of the Summer you probably wont care, you'll probably get a pang of annoyance when you get your results, but tbh it wont be in your head that night when you're celebrating all your other results.

All you can do is take this as a lesson and move on, put in everything to LC history if you really like the subject and use that to make up for the JC!

Whatever corrector gets your paper will have to write a report saying the first section was missing, which will send people in Athlone looking for the missing part. I would say bring it in tomorrow and explain what happened.
    It certainly cannot hurt.
    I've PM-ed you re this.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 572 ✭✭✭forestfruits

Wouldnt worry about it, its only the JC, but hold on to it and if you do the subject next year at least you will be able to work out a grade.

Its practice for the Leaving cert- it happened to you now so it wont happen then!!;);)

    Im so sorry,
remember its only the junior cert, i used to freak out about the junior cert just thinking about it (hello im the girl who hyper ventalated before the first year chirstmas tests) but now i just see the junior cert as another test its not that important, you can't get a job with it.
its the leaving cert that matters :)
Take this as a lesson im pretty sure you wont forget to hand up all the papers ever again.

Yes it does....they're not going to let you start any science subject if yyou didn't do anything for the JC.

I never said they'd stop im,but I doubt he'd be let do honurs unless he could prove he was up to it!

Ya it makes a difference for us also, you won't be accepted into an honours class unless you've scored high enough to prove you can keep up with the pace in the leaving cert. That said, if it was a mistake like it was for the OP, a once off then you probably already have a reputation as being a good student and you'll be accepted.

Ah jeez you poor thing, i think id die  nothing you can do now though, once you step outside the centre door its not valid whatsoever.

72.5% is pretty good regardless, il be lucky to get that even with my short answer questions included  lol chin up anyway!

Do you mean that you got EVERY question on the sheet right? All 20? That in itself would make the examiner suspicious. Maybe you did, i don't know but there were some damn hard questions and i consider myself quite good at history!

I know that, but presenting the sheet to the superintendant or a teacher with all 20 fully correct would, to me, seem very suspicious, after having the sheet overnight... Don't you agree?

    fair play!
i just about managed to get 10 lol
and they were all from the first year and second year half of the questions.
dont worry if you could get all of those right you have nothing to worry about, you will have no problem getting into an honours history class next year (if you do decide to pick it) and thats what really matters, the leaving cert.
When the marking scheme comes out correct the sheet that you didnt hanf up and add your total from both together and think of that as your result :)

    **EDIT

oh and did you talk to the super-intendent about the sheet today? :)

Wow, it sounds like you guys have pretty strict examiners. We have such a sound one. She gives us out our papers once everyone's in and let's us start early if we're all in and then she just sits at the top until someone wants her for something and then 5 mins before its time to leave she'll just say like "ok 5 mins left" and if you're not done at the end she gives you extra time but tells you you have to leave like every 2mins but some people got like an extra 10!

And she doesn't care about the rule thing that you have to stay for the 1st 30mins or that you cant leave in last 10mins either.

not doing her job properly giving people extra time?? At all?? Im not saying they should be horrible but rules are rules like?

The last ten minutes thing isn't crucial but the 30 minutes is sacrosanct.
Let's hope no-one from the SEC visits the school and finds one of her candidates out early.

For all those wondering about how it went here what I know..... I handed the paper to my principals secretary and she gave it to him and he spoke with the Super-intendant. Other then that I know nothing :( Hoping for the best :)

I hope the superintendent went home and rolled up a bluntt using the paper from your short questions and then he passed iit on to your principal and they smoked it down to a piece of ash and then took photos so that they can put them up on bebo later.

Looking at the heading for this forum for a while but never said anything cos it was to do with history but i decided to give a look in today and i see it has nothing to do with history really and is just a mistake anyone couldve made.
Its a shame it happened and if the examiners failed to take it back by now, the best thing to do is notify principal and class teacher.
Then take t home and keep it somewhere until the results come out and make your add the markd you've totted up to be right onto your history exam ans that will give you the proper result.
