Earlier today in the course of my job, I was introduced to a prospective customer, so I shook his hand and exchanged pleasantries. As he opened his mouth to say hello, a waft of what can only be described as a 2 month old ham basted in the pus of a rotting vulture came breezing out of his mouth and almost made me go unconscious.
I dont know if he knew that his breath smelled like satan in olfactory form, but it actually made my eyes water. When I got outside, I gulped huge lungfuls of fresh air, but that nasty pong seems to be staying with me. Five hours later and I think its gone that far up my nose that I can actually taste it....ewwww.

So what stench do you think is the worst you've encountered in your daily life? Feet? Farts? Decomposing rabbits that you found in a ditch?

In fairness, close second for me has to be really stale sweat, but todays particular unpleasantness is something that will, sadly, stay with me for a while.

I passed by an man in a shop once, and the smell actually made me dry-gag with water streaming down my face.

He stank of interference, piss and pure filth.

A friend of mine and his family were killed and left in the house for a week in the height of a Greek summer. They had a closed casket funeral and even then the smell made me nearly lose my stance and collapse. Granted though, it was quite emotional too.

Oh wait, now that I think of it... it was driving past a "meat factory" when the wind was blowing just so... the stench of death and disembowelment.
Taking a shortcut near bovine university comes at a terrible price :(

i got the smell of the scene where a decomposing body was discovered a few years ago - a neighbour opposite my nana's was found dead in his bed after neighbours hadn't seen him in a week - bare in mind it was during one of Ireland's sunniest July's. i went over to visit my nana the day after he was discovered and was sent over to his relative with some stuff and the smell was just awful -

A guy I went to school with. Actually his whole family smelled. REALLY REALLY REALLY BAD.

The only way I could describe it would be rubbish and stale sweat.

Used to work in an NYC office with an hasidic jew who brought in gefilte fish a few times a week for lunch. That stuff really stunk up the place.

+1 The best use of "yore ma" I've seen in a while. :)

Garlic breath. A guy I used to work with used to eat it all the time, every day in fact, and you could smell his breath from a fair old distance. Having to stand near him while he spoke (or just breath ) was a pain in the nose.

The place I work in has an effluent plant that returns crystal clear water to the river, but holy crap the by-product from it is the most vile sh1t I have ever smelt. It gets taken away by tractors and spread on fields. Worse than any slurry. I have had the misfortune to be stuck behind one of those tractors on the road for a while. Never a better reason to get a car with air conditioning :pac:

Without thinking, one afternoon while in a city centre rehearsal studio, I sniffed the microphone I was singing into..

Well sweet Jesus. The years of of people breathing/spitting into that mic had definitely taken it's toll. Stale putrid human stink, so bad I nearly threw up on the mic.. Come to think of it, it's probably happend. That would account for the severity of the smell..

    Ick..

+1, I always thought tv was overexaggerating. It wasn't!!

Also, any meat that has been left too long in the heat. Nasty.

Bait is also up there. Some guy opened his container of bait next to me at Booterstown DART station the other day, the smells combined, defo in my top three!

Good few years back... I was involved in a project in a bone meal factory. Basically, bone meal is dead cows that are unfit for consumption which are then ground up into pulp and dried.
My boss at the time went to a meeting in the factory, they gave him a (sealed) bag of it because apparently it's great stuff to put on roses.

2 months and several valets later, the stink was still so bad in the car he had to sell it.

A pile of sheep stomachs left in a butcher's shed for a week.
I used to go to school beside a meat factory and the stench of death was incredible for the first few months, but after that you just stopped smelling it.

I'm suprised no pansy anti-smokers have mentioned the ciggarette smoke they once smelled from a co-workers jacket... the way they carry on you'd think I was blowing rotting corpse bits in their face.
*peeew I don't like the smell*
C'mere I've got a meat factory and a sack of old spuds I wanna show you.

20 year old gear oil can be really gag worthy.
If you have never smelt it... the old stuff was ordinary oil that was thickened using render

A big dirty sh1te after 15 pints of guinness.

    Raw hole. Big smell.

Water, when it's left in a bucket, barrel etc, for quite a while can be putrid. I don't know how long it takes to stagnate, but there's a hell of a pong from it.

The smell in the cancer ward when i used to work in a hospital, i think it was actually the cheapo air-freshener they used to use, didnt really mask the smell, just made it worse.

incidently has anybody ever smelt that plant "Titan arum (Amorphophallus titanum) (corpse flower)" its supposed to be the most rotten fouls stench known to man, i think it only blooms once every couple of years in a rainforest. id like to sample its stench once in my life, just to be able to say i smelt it.

In a hospital where I worked in London, the corridor where i was escorting patients to their changing room became overpowered by a rotten stench. As the minutes passed by it got worse and worse. I started to feel sick, so I brought my patients the long way around to avoid this corridor (I was afraid they'd think it came from me!). Eventually, a doctor popped out of the room where this stench was emerging from and apologised, explaining he'd just drained a rather large abscess from a patient!
It took two days for the smell to go, we constantly sprayed air fresheners and perfumes to no avail.

    Unbearable.

I reckon PCI in DNA extraction is worse. Pewwwwww and makes you really drowsy. Can't keep it in the fume cupboard, it gets everywhere.

I had a Summer job working for a construction firm. They got a contract to replace the roof of a meat factory and it was one of the hottest Summers back in the mid 90's. This meat factory also happened to be on strike for a few weeks at this stage and there was bits of meat lying around and the skins of cows and sheep sitting in barrells. The stench was stomach turning, I had to come down from the roof so many times as I thought I was going to pass out.

The Chilling Factory in Kildare Town on a warm day is not pleasent... nearly crashed the car going past it one day.
