Sorry if this is the wrong forum - Yes, as funny as it sounds, I have a problem with bloating. It is beyond a laugh at this stage as it preventing me from functioning normally at work.

I think I have an intolerance to certain foods. I am definite I have an intolerance for milk but apart from that I think I'm also allergic to eggs, wheat and oats and porridge. I also think I have a reaction to beer but it is really hard to tell as beer is like that anyway.
You have to be an expert to tell exactly what is made from wheat - for example is hops wheat or oats????!!

Would a food allergist be able to sort this out? I have been trying to determine exactly what triggers it but it is very difficult. Sometimes I can eat a pizza or a bread roll without any side effects and also bread seems to settle my stomach sometimes and seems to do more good than harm.
Several relatives of mine are completely intolerant to gluten but I never feel sick after eating it. It's impossible to tell what is triggering the problem.

I am having real problems finding substitutes for bread products (if it is that). In a lot of shops there is nothing but bread and wheat products.....
Usually you can to substitute fruit for bread but that also seems to cause problems.

The best thing for you to do might be to try an elimination diet. Start with a few days eating say lamb and pears and rice. Very few people are allergic to them. When your stomach is well settled, introduce a food that you think you are allergic to, eat it for a couple of meals and see what happens. Go back to your basic diet, then try a different food.

There are tests for actual allergies (I know the Children's hospital in Crumlin does them for children, not sure where does them for adults), but intolerances are harder to test for.

A lot of crispbreads are made from rye. You can also get rye or spelt bread. Or I have a fairly decent recipe for flaxmeal bread.
