tattoos in pubs

does anyone think that tattoos should be hidden or shown off while in a pub/club???

im not talking sleeveless t-shirts or anythins, just ones with shorter sleeves.

speaking from experience, i know tattoos produce mixed effects with the ladies, either love em or hate em, so is it better just to cut my losses and cover the f*ckin things up???

p.s. i instantly think that any other fella i see showing em off is only doing it to be a show off, extremely hypocritical i know, but thats just the feeling i get.

I know of some Australian bars that ban visible tattoos but I don't think it should be banned here.

  • Hmm a random question, lol. I assume you're asking if it's a good idea to show them off, rather than literally being allowed to? Personally, I hate tattoos and therefore I don't particularly enjoy seeing them on anyone, but I'm sure loads of people don't care.

You wont past many doors with visible tatoos.Although most doormen can tell the difference between tatoos on some prison-hardened football hooligan and some skinny-arsed wanker with a hoxton fin and "indian" writing on the nape of his neck.

If you like your tats show em off, if you dont like them change them to something you do like or get rid of them. I've a good few visible tattoos and I've no trouble getting into anywhere I'd want to go and any girl I've talked to has found tattooing a point of interest. Thats just me though.

Anti tatooist = what you're talking about.

    That's a pretty stupid comment.

It really does depend on the tattoos to be honest but I'm not sure what you're trying to achieve here.

Are you trying to get past the doormen or just pull? I figure if your tattoos are the type to get you pulled by a doorman you should hide them yeah but as far as picking up women? Don't be so insecure, why the hell should you care what some stuck up bint thinks of your appearance as long as you like them?

In fairness though, I think you should've put more thought into your tatts if you're regretting them now.

What an effin crock of sh!t. FFS grow the hell up!! pfftttt

    moving on. . .

I have 5 tattoo's. 2 of which would pretty much always be on show. I am getting another one this weekend. I also have a few piercings. so here's a few questions folks, for those you who object/take the p1ss out of other peoples body art:

    1. does what I choose to do with MY body give anyone a reason to make a joke of me?? answer equals NO.
    2. Is what an individual does to his/her own body any of your business?? answer equals NO
    3. Do you make fun or jeer people because of their race or their religion or their birth marks? answer equals NO

So why choose to make silly comments about what a person decides to do with THEIR body?? childish and stooopid

Er, people don't really have a choice about their birth marks or race.. and if people don't like 'body art' why aren't they entitled to say so?:)

I've nothing against certain tattoos in some places and I have nothing against people getting them (provided it's their choice and they're not coerced into it) however if you get a tattoo that's visible to others, then you're doing so in order to make a statement so you actually WANT people to see it. Therefore you can't complain if people make comments - as long as they don't get too insulting.

Fair enough. but people choose their religions. would you judge an individual because they choose to be hindu and wear a sindoor?? no I dont think so. I, personally, find it very disturbing and disrespectful that someone would comment about someone else's choice of how they look.

you not for real?? tattoo's are an individual thing, as is the make up you choose to wear on your face or the colour you choose to dye your hair. Do I have the RIGHT to comment on your hair colour or make up because really by wearing it, you want people to see it, so you cant complain if people make comments as long don't get too insulting???? BULLSH!T

A bit naive I think, if you don't want people to comment or notice how you look, why have bits of metal skewered through your face/nose/wherever and pictures permanently etched on yourself? It might be 'bodyart' to you and that's fine, but to others its self defacement.

Well to be fair, ChewChew's right to say commenting is out of order, but getting attention - e.g. lots of looks - has to be expected.

I understand where you're coming from but why should that make any difference to other people? How is it anyone else's place to pass negative judgement for changing their appearance?

I really don't mind how people look as long as they have good personal hygeine.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 1,440 ✭✭✭GirlInterrupted

I think it's human nature to comment on anothers appearance, although maybe not to their face - whether its

''thats a lovely dress she's wearing'' or

''look at the size of the bolt through her nose!''......

  • Moderators Posts: 24,367 ✭✭✭✭ChewChew

GTF. again its the individuals choice what they do and its not for you or anyone else to comment, unless your opinion is asked for. people who get tattoo's and bodypiercings get them because 99% of the time it means something to them. and because they like it. its like when you buy a pair of shoes, its not nice for someone to walk up to you and diss your shoes. its disrespectful and its disgusting.

of course looks are expected. its a natural thing. but for someone who comments and makes stupid remarks like ''someone who has a tatoo is either silly or a criminal'' is just bad manners.

I agree with you. I just think that sometimes passing uncalled for judgement on something that has nothing to do with a person can come across as snobby or uptight. I'm not saying that anything you've said is wrong, not in the slightest but I don't think comments like "people with tattoos are criminals", are helpful or intelligent. That poster was either joking or lives in a paper bag.

As a side note, I have a few piercings, nothing major and a tattoo. I got them because I like them. I can't really see how they could bother or concern anyone else. I didn't get them for attention, it was just because I like them!

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 77 ✭✭yummycake

Although I don't have any tattoos, if a pub refused to let in people that did I wouldn't bother going. NOTHING WORSE THAN SNOBS.

you should only get a tattoo if it is something you REALLY want. your better waiting till you are 100% sure what you want. my new one will be on my foot, with very very special meaning

Sorry GI, I wasnt posting my comments directly at you as an individual. apologies if they came across that way!!

I got a tattoo a few weeks ago for my 21st- have been thinking about it with years and I'm delighted I marked the occasion with getting a tattoo that really means something to me. I've no regrets whatsoever and I plan on showing it off as much as I can as I love it.

In my opinion, as long as you like it, you shouldn't have to worry what people think of you as a person just because you have a tattoo. I have no intentions of keeping mine covered just in case people may not like it or may judge me because of it.

Anyways, I've been getting loadsa compliments for it so far :D
