I thought questions 1 and 2 were grand..
question 3 was ok but the last part of c was hard enough..
question 4 wasn't great.. question 5 was awful and 6 was pretty easy..

4 and 5 were definitely the worst..

as for the solutions maybe we could just talk about them here??

I was happy enough with the whole paper but it i think it was harder than previous years. there were a few little bits which caught me out but im fairly confident that i well.:D:D

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 23 Valin

I showed my teacher the paper and she said it was one of the hardest she's seen in years and that some of the questions where really sneaky.

Area & Volume was easy but then in Co-ord Geometry in part B I had (0,3) for b,c and s. So my triangle was a dot!
Then trig wasn't to bad and the Triangle, construction stuff wasn't too bad except for c (iv), it just didn't make sense! Had no idea how to do 4 c (i) but part 2 was easy. Then in the trig section they could have just said 4 over 2 or something and made it clear instead of deliberatly trying to confuse use by just saying 4.

And don't even get me started on counting the golf rounds, I never thought something could be as boring as golf until I did that question! I literally thought I was about to lose my mind!!!!

    the maths was really hard
my 3 angles of a triangle theorem came up :) yay
    question 1 was fine,2 no clue,3 was ok,4 ok,5 really difficult and 6 easy

what did pple get for q 5c the coodrinates of p(ordinary)

thought the paper was quite difficult and time was scarce too! I wont go into individual questions but they gave a hard maths exam this year.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 668 ✭✭✭ch252

I was delighted with it, the 2 theorems I thought would come up did and I did all questions without much difficulty, I was pi**** off that I didn't change mins to hours in the question 5 5(b)(i)
Time was extremely scarce, I was just finishing as the super intendant said close the booklets! Needed a lot of extra paper too, another half hour would have made a big difference, but I suppose timing is part of the exam too.
It definitely brought me up from paper one.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 41 Lorthas

It was a difficult paper, but i enjoyed it, question 5 was hard, but the rest was like other papers. It was above average in difficulty level

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 709 ✭✭✭tracker-man

why is there such a time limit though? There testing your maths, not your time keeping or organisational skills! Why can't you have as much time as you like to answer as many questions as you possibly can. I mean, if you miss out on a question or two if you know the method and you just run out of time, it doesn't give a fair impression on the work you've been doing for 3 years does it? Why not give enough time to write everything you know, good plentiful answers and thus, possibly get a higher grade? Would make more sense to me...

Overall i tout it was a good paper.theorems were good Q1,2,3,6 were fairly easy the other two were fairly difficult.i was a little stuck 4 time unlike paper1.id say i probly got a B.:D

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 22 oisin238

i hated it i only liked q6 and the theroms

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 183 ✭✭TransititionMan

I thought i done alot worse than i had til i looked over the paper.
    Q1- No thougth was needed
    Q2- I was Useless
    Q3- Okay
    Q4- Very easy i thought.
Q5- I definatly got some marks for it, i liked c.
Q6- Iceing on the cake as far as my test went, brought me up to a B if i calculated correctly.

Very hard paper all the same and some of the stuff ijust guessed my way through.

I think i did well, but the paper was really hard. The trigonometery and tangents and stuff were really hard..........! But overall, i think i will get an A or B!!

I really thought the first 2 questions were pretty hard!!!!!!!!!!
3,4,5 and 6 were really easy!!!!!!!!!! Anyone else agree.....anyone willin to post sum soloutions??????????

Well i thought it woz ok loved the theorems yay! but stupid me got it into my head that it was over at 12.30 so i thought i had loads of time!owel.. em just wondering if any one knows what the story is with extra paper. i have big writing so needed 3 extra booklets but when i asked for the third one the superintendant came up and started looking through my work! Is that allowed?? she said the dept are v. fussy about paper r sumthing. I lost about two mins over that which i know doesnt sound very long but when you're told youve 5 mins left when your stupid brain thinks youve half an hour its loads. God im so p***ed off.

Doubt it? I got 3 booklets too and countless sheets of graph paper and nothing was said so I dunno? we had a sound super intendant though.

Well my geography teacher told us that we can use as much paper as we want and skip lines/ write on one side of the page only and they have to give you as much paper as you want.
Ragin' though... :(. I'm sure you did ok.

    Question 2 (b)

All the points added to (0,3)!!!! What the hell!

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 41 t-mobile1892

If you look back over the past maths exams since the new syllabus came in this years is probably the hardest.....still the theorems nd the construction were handy enough....

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 709 ✭✭✭tracker-man

yep me too, used two extra booklets, and 3 pages of graph paper! Not a problem. The blue booklet would hardly close! :) exam time is not the time to be
    environmentally friendly! :D

it was waaaay easier than paper 1 :)
but i still found some parts difficult,
    Q1 was easy
Q2 i skipped part C and never went back to it because i ran out of time
Q3 easy enough, i was happy with the theorem ^_^
Q4 all i can say is wah? i couldnt do part B
Q5 easy but i skipped C and i didnt go back to it
Q6 simple but i had to go over that golf thing about 10 times..
and i thought watching golf was boring.. ugh and my dad even listens to golf on the radio and i thought that was bad...

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 183 ✭✭TransititionMan

Yeh I think most ppl got stuck on 2 i knw i did and i wont even get any marks for asome of the stuff cos i didnt even try cos it would cost me alot of time for minimum points :S

I actually think i done better in paper 2 than 1 which is a massive shock for me :O

Still the paper was very hard and im glad when i see ppl get the same answers as i did... eg (0,3) lol all 3 of em were that :P funny looking triangle :P

Since when does a dot constitute a triangle! :D

My teacher said that 4 & 5 part (c)'s where just cruel!
Like I think who ever made the papers this year just decided, 'Nah, I won't ask them what on the course! I'll just ask them confusing questions that they'll get wrong!'

My teacher is complaining about Question 2 part (b) and 4 & 5 part c's. Anyone else talk to their teachers?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 35 stop_the_craze

I did the ordinary level paper. I think I got 100% in Paper 1 and 2 so a deffo A for me .

Hope you guys did good too!

Oh my god it was brutal! Most unfair, difficult exam I've ever seen in my life, especially trig, which I'm normally good at. Really makes me wish I'd done the JC last year.

If anyone wants to know the solution for a specific question (except Q5 part (a) and (c) ) Just ask and i might be able to help

i spent way too much time on 2 gettin it right and the area and volume question i usually fine fine but then i was just screwed!!
hopefully the markin scheme wil b generous!!:D

I second that! My teacher told me the head examiners sit down and discuss the paper and how it was answered. If for example question 4 was answered badly by loads of students then they allow for that in the marking scheme.

Yeh :P thank god for attempt marks anyway :P :P :P
Added mine up looking over the test again and i got around 72%
    delighted :P

i nearly burst with hapiness when i saw the theorems but question 5 was impossible, id say i got a max of about 20/50 in it :(:(

Im TERRIFIED to go to my teacher, he wont talk to you unless you get a B or over. I daresay ill never talk 2 him again haha...!!

Hey, i was just wondering, about part (iv) of b in Question 2 (Find the area of the triangle cde) what was the simplest way of doing that? I had to use the distance equation 3 times, and found each of the areas of the small triangles, and added them. I used up a whole page, and lost loadza time, and i had to skip part c and come back to it later. Was there a simpler way of doing that part?

not too sure but i used 1/2 a b SinC
its probably wrong though, but thats what i always do to get the area of a triangle.
oh and what was your graph like?
mine was so weird the lines intersected at their tips so it formed a perfect triangle, which never happened before so im guessing its wrong.

Yeah i did that, but the only way i could get the area was use 1/2absinC, but i only had the 2 90 degree angles, so i had to find 2 sides of each.... took ages.

Of course it looks impossible, you haven't spent 2 years learning how to do it. : p It's really not that bad.
