Outside City Square where the pub used to be... the development has been going on for ages at this stage with "Coming Soon" signs on the scafolding. Now City Square are saying its coming soon on their radio ads.

    December

December jeez what are they doin!!!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,536 ✭✭✭JohnC.

It used to be in Roches, but were kicked out after Debenhams took over.

It probably won't be long opening now. The scaffolding inside City Square came down last week and they have started fitting it out inside.

    [Edit]
    December seems a bit long!

Maybe I'm wrong but a mate of mine got a job there and he said he's not starting until december

  • Moderators, Education Moderators, Technology & Internet Moderators, Regional South East Moderators Posts: 24,056 Mod ✭✭✭✭Sully

I very much doubt its going to take that long. Id say it will be open within a month at most. They have been working on it for ages and lately have been working late at night.

Maybe your friend is only being taken on for busy shifts?

The inside is still being gutted and is still all concrete

STILL being gutted? Christ, wtf are they using to do the work? If there taking so long surely they wouldn't be saying its "Coming Soon" when soon really should actually be soon and not months away! Its been a while I looked properly but its been gutted for ages, and they seem to be working nights now..

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 77 ✭✭tiny-tyno

im just back from a walk with one of the girls and she said that she heard its openin in two weeks, but i dont see how that is possible with it still gettin gutted inside

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,657 ✭✭✭trishw78

I also heard by the end of June which would be two weeks.

Stinger-bar is your friend doing Seasonal work this would make sense if he was starting in December.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 58 ✭✭Stinger-bar

That could be it alright, he seemed fairly adamant but the place does look like it's good to go

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,536 ✭✭✭JohnC.

It isn't still being gutted inside. You can usually have a peek through the door as you pass and fittings are going in and the suspended ceiling seems more or less complete. It does look like at least one red-brick wall may be left exposed. The rest of the scaffolding came down today too.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 361 ✭✭BazBox

I hope its soon anyway, i liked their selection before it was closed and there aint much else in waterford for mens fashion

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 156 ✭✭Jor

All the hoarding and scaffolding came down to-day.
It looks like the suspended ceiling is already up so it should be only a few weeks before it is open.

Personally, I don't care but River island seems to come up in quite a few threads.

seriously, whats the big deal? they get about 9000 of everything in stock, so no matter what you buy, you put it on and three minutes later you've met eight people in the same thing. you go for a drink and the pub is full of fellas in pastel coloured shirts with oklahoma 74 or hawaii 35's written across it. what the **** does any of that mean anyway? pick a state, pick a number, put it on a bonbon coloured shirt. **** that. they had some decent flip flops though

Yeah but in fairness the lack of mens clothes shops in the city is getting a bit drastic. Anything new (or returning in this case) would be an improvement.

Only passed by it and there was boxes of shelving and some of the shelving up there so it won't be two long now, that usually takes a couple of weeks from then. They have kept a red brick wall, Maybe it was a listed building and they were forced to keep a wall or maybe it is just as they say, design, Looks big and spacey anyway. It will be a big enough store. Doors are open you can look fully in today!!

I often wondered what is the point of these random words and numbers of clothes as well, they do look a bit stupid. I guess that some people presume that it they buy it in a branded shop and it is expensive it must looks cool. :D

river island is opening saturday morning the 28th june for definite

the staff are moving in next week to get all the stock ready so it seems as if things are running to scheduele

the waterford store is a grade 10, given that kilkenny which is pretty big is only a grade 7, that should give you some idea of the scale and size that the waterford store is going to be!

really can't wait now, ive been deprived for too long :D

Lets swing back to topic folks...

What do people think? Is it as big as expected? I aint been in yet, but one of the lads was saying there aint much mens wear compared to other RI Stores.

ok, I was recently in london and RI there is similar, i think overall it is more casual, dressing casual wear up with acessories. There was a time RI was great for dressy wear but not so much anymore. In saying that Its still quality.
