For the last 2 months i have been hearing really strange sounds coming from the attic above my room..
My first thought was that it was mice..but sometimes it sounds louder than mice, like something banging around the place..
I have been living in this house all my life, barr maybe a few years when in college and i have been in this particular room for about 4 yrs..I have never heard anything like it before.
I went up there a couple of days ago, and there was no sign of any wildlife up there mice/rats/birds/bats..but i left out 2 mouse traps and checked them yesterday , but they were untouched.
My sisters room is next to mine and she never hears anything, although she is a heavy sleeper..I dont think my family even believe me..but my boyfriend has heard it too lately, which makes me know that i am not insane..
    It really wrecking my head.
What the hell is in my attic..??

    Maddie ?

Could something be a bit unstable and fall over or something ?
Oh and look for mouse/rat droppings your more likely to spot that than the actual rodents themselves.

Don't want to freak you out or anything but ....

Leave a box of Quality Street up there. If any of them are eaten then you will know.

It's most likely birds. They nest in lots of attics at this time of the year. They're in my attic at the moment too.

They get under the tiles/slates and build nests in any cracks, which widens them over time and before you know it you've got an avairy (spelling?).

I spotted one flying with a twig to a tiny gap in the gable end of my house, and had to get the gap-fill stuff out. I felt a bit mean making him homeless though.

hmm, i doubt it, when i went up there i looked for bird droppings but couldnt see any!

I reckon its prob birds too. My attic is converted (into my bedroom) and the cubby holes at the side often get little visitors round this time of year!

Although they dont normally make loud banging noises (mainly starlings i get....as opposed to swans, ostriches etc).

Ya my friend found a dead one in his water tank the other day. Not nice since you could be showering in dead bird water.

    Whats not nice about that?

Well the reason why i thought it was mice was because i could hear them running across the beams, like scurrying along ..a bit loud for a small bird.

Jez that reminds me when my sisters and I were young. Every nite without fail we'd hear the scuttling overhead even though our parents were in the room beside us, they never heard it. Old house the attics on our block were open from the first house to the last. Every night we used to bang the plaster board and hear the scuttling of feet over head. Eventually told our mother, she was really annoyed and first put traps in the attic, poison not a good idea because of smell... then got the attic bricked up. End of problem. You are not imagining it, put down traps, better still put the cat up before the traps, then fill up any holes/places they might be getting in. Good luck:D

I got freaked out when animal bones started appearing on the floor in front of the chimney, took a couple of hours to figure out twas the feckin birds!

It could be birds only they would be asleep at night. Any sound in the attic will get amplified at night it could be something tiny.

The birds could have allowed a daft to get into the attic and it could simply be the wind.

No, I meant one of the baby birds left the front door of the nest open. Then daddy bird started giving out about heating bills and had a big tantrum. I'm assuming this was the noise she heard.

alot of people here are saying its birds..
    but i seriously doubt it..
the scurrying is too loud to be birds..like too heavy a sound if you know what i mean.
Also when i went up there, there were no bird droppings, so unless they are toilet trained birds, i doubt its birds.
I might check the traps again, i put cheese in them, but i was just told i should have put chocolate or the fat off a rasher in them instead...
    any ideas?

Mice and rats don't actually eat cheese I think there lactose intolerant.

Biscuit or chocolate, or a chocolate biscuit would work.

Perhaps it could be a wasps nest or beehive? They make a lot more noises a lot more loudly than you would think.

Peanut butter or jam in the traps, rust me, gets the ****ers every time. We had a rat in the shed, put it down, dense ****er was caught in in within the hour.

OP, there is absolutely nothing in your attic. The noises are coming from within your own head because you are, in fact, insane.

    Feel better? :)
