I think i threw this up here once or twice. short synopsis is Brian Williams (host) and his team catch sexual predators under the guise of coming over to have sex with underage girls.

These guys do anything when they get there from running right out (into police custody), pleading, bargaining, denial, etc. etc. Most/all are caught in posession of sexual paraphonelia, toys, condoms, etc. and are charged by that evidence and their chat logs (which can be fairly explicit in places)

Its really a revelating watch. Get your kids down for it if theyre on the internet a lot. or even a little.

Its a little amusing. But that may just be Brian Williams - he has his own brand of humour.

Its someone called Chris Hansen who presents it.

    I laughed to my shame..

    OMG CHRIS HANSEN!

Its quite a funny show but also shocking to see just how perverted they are and easy it is to trick people online. Those Internet Superhero's on slash b do something similar regularly around adult chat rooms which always provides amusing results.

A mate from America introduced me to this show a few months back. We discussed the merits of having our own version of the show... with a few crucial differences.

    1. No cameras
    2. No cops
    3. No mercy.

His screams when he's running away from the tazers are hilarious!

Talk about getting caught by the short n curlies!

I'm surprised I haven't even heard that this show was in existence! Compelling stuff though!

Couldn't help but clench my fists hard when it was showing the offenders faces at the end!

Seen it a few times, a huge amount of very, very successful and wealthy business owners throwing their life away. "Have a seat".

You can see how they immediately become completely submissive once they realise they're f*cked!

Did anyone else get the impression from them that they didn't feel like what they were doing was wrong? //worried smiley

    Weird.

What's freaky is that I don't get an evil feeling off the bad guy.
He just doesn't seem that weird. Not like you'd think.

He probably doesn't see it as weird or evil, himself, so wouldn't be giving off that vibe. Its amazing the justifications people can come up with to conduct the most horrendous acts, and sleep soundly that night.

Edit: Just watched the whole of that, these muppets apparently put a young (13-15) year old girl in a room with a potentially armed man (and he had a fully loaded semi automatic pistol in his car), with a platoon of armed officers outside, all set for the shootout, in the name of entertainment. And zero convictions in 24 arrests. http://youtube.com/watch?v=UgLyXIzmx8E&feature=related Great.

Some know its wrong but it doesnt stop them. When they see the cameras they fall down to their knees etc. and you have to wonder if they arent just digging for sympathy.

The girl was a trained police officer. The convictions and police enforcement is guaranteed as a result of the internet chat logs and the appearance of the suspect at the scheduled time and place. Primarily they ensure that during the chat they are aware the girl they are speaking to is supposedly underage, that they want to engage in sex and arrange to meet at a specific time and place with certain key distinguishing items (eg. did you bring the whip?) to which the suspect will say Yes. Its all on camera, documented, and is enough for a conviction. But primarily it and the show serves as a detterent to would be felons, getting them worried that the next time they arrange to meet a girl it will be the next sting operation, wether by the NBC show or not.

Here's me expecting some kind of vid explaining 'the predator's' weaknesses and how to stop him from setting off the nuclear bomb on his arm.

Sweet jeebus this is mental. It probably would be better if they didnt film it though. Surely there would be a much higher success rate if these fellas werent wise to what could happen

Bollocks she was. She had no idea how to check if he was armed or not, and had to be shown how to check. She was probably sourced by this group "perverted justice", the nice people in the chatrooms, who are not a legal body, are accountable to nobody, and earn in excess of $100,000 per show. Also it doesn't matter if you are innocent or guilty, the minute you show up on that camera you are finished, your life is over, no benefit of a judge or jury. Also did you even look at that link? Its nowhere near guaranteed convictions, you have a prosecutor stating that the show is any prosecutor's worst nightmare.

No, lets call a spade a spade here. Primarily it and the show serves as entertainment and mucho advertising bucks. It never has and never will serve as a deterrent to real perverts, don't kid yourself. Its the spectacle that sells.

Is it not seen as Entrapment at all?
Entrapment is when the people in the chatrooms actually initiate the "sex talk". If the perverts initiate it, its not entrapment. Of course we aren't given access to the full transcripts of those chats, so we'll never know. What we can say for sure though, is that entrapment or not, anyone caught on that show is permanently ruined.

I was hoping it was something to do with that. I've got one hiding in my garden and am desperate to get rid of him. I tried an exterminator, but he was just skinned alive and is still hanging from my tree. Apparently body parts can't go in the green or brown bins, and the black bins aren't collected for another week. And the sun isn't helping the smell.

Most of the people in this thread have fallen victim to the way the show paints the "offenders" on the show. This show is not a court of law and as someone said earlier, the producers have the power to manipulate and edit what you see for the purpose of entertainment. They have the power to twist facts to make people look more predator like with and leave out some facts that might contradict what they're painting the "predator" out to be like.

The show is disgusting and it is completely unethical to humiliate people the way they do.

Nah nah nah, whats disgusting is a man in his mid thirties/mid forties/ mid fifities, bringing a condom to meet up with a girl aged 13,14.
    Thats UNETHICAL.

They have done 6 or 7 series of these around america, and SIMPLESAM, i think the amount of people convicted from this show is 117 out of 200.
That case of 25 was in one state in which the state courts needed more evidence.
Id say NBC are doing very well out of it tho, and the presenters ego is probably out of control, but its convicted alot of these pedos.
Its amazing when you see the guys who have heard of the show and tell Hansen that they had a feeling this was gonna happen but still came, its unreal like.

Some guys shot himself in the making of the show(Louis Conradt) when they went to his house to arrest him.
Theres another sick case of an Air Force mechanic about to be deployed to Iraq, he brings his camera to the house and straight away asks the girl can they go upstairs to start taking photos. The usual happens, he tries to bluff, gets arrested. Dies in prison a year later of liver failure, karma much?

The fact that they are thought to fabricate the chat logs is disturbing.

Ye there have been some cases of entrapment, see the wiki of the show.
In some cases, the subject of sex is brought up by the investigators, but apprently, the majority of the time, the minute sex is mentioned, the Pedos begin to talk of meeting up and ****.
    Entrapment is no excuse

So they are being convicted of meeting up with a woman pretending to be an early teenage girl for sexual activities? The girl isn't even a kid... Even if any of them ****ed her, how would that be a crime? The fact that he thinks it is a child may be disgusting, but since when is it a crime to pork an adult who looks like a kid?

Entertainment Television has absolutly no place in any justice system unless they are there for observational purposes only.

Child predators are disgusting, but publicly humiliation and trial by media is not justice. This show is ridiculous.

    Sicko deserves to be humiliated.
No, not when they have a conviction ratio of just over half, out of hundreds. Make no mistake, if you're caught on this you will be tried and executed in the court of public opinion. You wife will divorce you, your boss will fire you, your neighbours and family will disown you, and you might have a very hard time ever finding employment again. You are done, game over, and its 50-50 that you never commited a crime at all.

What these people are doing is wrong, make no mistake, but they don't deserve an automatic death sentence over it (most of them).

David Spade did a good spoof of this show. He accuses the child of being the predator. It's on youtube I think.

What kind of 13-14 year old girl wants to have some guy come over with a whip and toys? Personally I would be less worried about why the guys are doing this and more worried about why kids are so baldy screwed up and misinformed that guys like this can operate freely. Congrats for avoiding the real issues.

    Come off it.
Conviction or not its quite clear what these wierdos are up to.
Whether or not they commit the actual crime of statutory rape, the intention to do so is enough in my eyes for these people to burn in the pit of public opinion.
Look at the link provided above. Even the DA says that they may fake some of it, and that they can't use it in court.

I have seen bits and pieces of this show before. It is disturbing from both the predator aspect and the cashing in by the media.

I do disagree with your first point though. An illegal act does not have to be commited to break the law if there is intent. Most legal systems will try and convict purely based on intent. This could be someone who hires someone else to kill their spouse or intends to have sex with a minor. If the intention is there, they take steps to make it happen and they are aware of what they are doing then they are breaking the law.

The US Justice system is obviously flawed if these people aren't going down.
Yeah, you're right. To hell with the justice system. We should abandon the assumption of innocent until proven guilty because the TV man says the guy is guilty. If the man on TV isn't qualified to make a conclusion like that, then who is? Hell, they should just castrate anyone who has appeared on that show because they're definatly guilty. It doesn't matter what their side of the story is or even if they make a defence or not, they probably just didn't see the show.

    It IS a crime.

They charge is soliciting a minor for sex (knowingly)

Even if the decoy they use isnt a minor....even they had sex with the girl it would not be sex with a minor because the decoy is overage. However, regardless of the age of the decoy, the charge of solicitation is still satisfied if you BELIEVE the person to be underage.

With a solicitation charge, there does not have to be an identifiable victim at the end of it....so it does not matter what age the decoy ACTUALLY is.

The reason they get them to bring whips, lube etc over is that it demonstrates intent and makes it easier to get a prosecution in court.

I myself think it's tragic to watch this on TV as you can only imagine the families behind the scenes which have been wrecked by the actions of their father, brother, son etc.....but I have absolutley no sympathy for the predators themselves and I cant believe how anybody possibly could!

I just feel sorry for the families of these guys who have to walk down the street with everyione in their town knowing their father is on the sex offenders register.

I see what you're saying, but at the end of the day, people who are not convicted of crimes are being completely destroyed for the cynical profits of some TV executive and a gang of vigilantes. This cannot be supported.

So when you see cctv footage of a guy holding up a petrol station and he's caught red handed (like the guy in the above video), you're going to assume he's 'innocent' until the man in the courtroom tells him he's not.

I for one am glad these rodents are dealt with the way they are.

Question is, how would you feel if they went free (or got a lesser sentence)because of a tenchicallity? Look at the recent Joe Duffy scandal...

Everything I don't like is either woke or fascist - possibly both - pick one.
