Dehydration in Bodybuilding

I understand in the week/weeks/days/hours(?) coming up a competition that bodybuilders will purposefully dehydrate themselves to look more cut and chiselled... is this correct?

What techniques are used, do you just NOT drink anything? How long does it last and how long before a competition do you need to start the process?

Unless you are already pretty ripped, you are wasting your time. Yes, careful manipulation of sodium, carbs and water can produce a more defined look, but you need bodyfat in single digits for it to be worth even considering.

And of course, you put in a lot of work and hardship to look a particular way for a few hours. A day at most. As soon as the competition is over, they drink a gallon of water, eat a pizza and go smooth.
