One night stand (ECW spoilers)

Well one night stand is just around the corner and to be honest I enjoyed last years outing. I enjoy the fact that every match has some sort of twist to it. I've always been a fan of gimmick matches and could care less whether the type of match is relevant to the storyline or not. They add an element of excitment to PPV's cause as far as Im concerened I get to see plenty of standard one on one matches on RAW and SD! every week (that's if I decide to watch them that is).

There is one thing that I'm not so sure about with this years effort...why the hell are HHH and Randy Orton in a last man standing match?! They only had one at No Mercy late last year! If it were up to me, I would have these guys go at it in a hell in a cell match...the ultimate way to end a feud.

Then theres John Cena v. JBL in a first blood match. Maybe one of you guys can clear this one up for me but wasn't one of these guys in a first blood match earlier this year? I'm thinking JBL v. Jericho for some reason. Maybe I'm wrong.

Next theres HBK v. Batista in a strecther match. Have no problem with this really. Should be a good match.

The singapore can match (announced on ECW this week) should be good aswell. Good to see Dreamer getting a PPV outing.

Finally, on the current card, theres Hardy v. Umaga, falls count anywhere. This should be good and will probably end with a big bump from Hardy.

Overall should be a good watch in my mind.

I think it should be alright too , and its on Sky Sports so ill watch it. Undertaker vs Edge in a TLC Match for th WHC, and if Undertaker loses he will be fired. Either a move to RAW for him for one last hurrah before he retires, or he will be champ on Smackdown again..zzz,,The quicker he goes the better

You stumbled on the reason here

Seeing as it's an ECW Pay Per view there's a decent chance there might be a Shelton Kofi match and hopefully something involving the Miz. I'm looking forward to it as well, really like ECW

The last man standing stipulation makes the most sense of all the stipulations tbh. Otron lost the WWE title to Hunter in a singles match at No Mercy, won it back later that night in a Last Man Standing match. Then Triple H beat him for the title at Backlash in a Fatal Four Way match and finally Triple H defended his title in a Steel Cage match. So to review, the only time Orton has pinned/beaten Hunter (PPV matches only, cos I can't recall every RAW) was in a Last Man Standing match. So it makes a lot of sense that when Orton was given the chance to pick a stipulation, he decided on Last Man Standing.

Of course, this could just be me over thinking it and WWE forgot about (or at least thinks the fans have) the match at No Mrecy.

No, Orton picked the stipulation on Raw and said that it was the match that he beat HHH for the title in

I don't know about this PPV yet. The one last year had a couple of decent matches that I liked

Sad what has become of a PPV that in 2005 grabbed wrestling by the balls and shook the whole industry up.

While Awesome/Tankana hammered home the style was totally unsafe. As the unprotected chair shots in that match probably gave each man a concussion or two. Mike Awesome hung himself less than two years later so it at least shook one person up.

Only problem is its the same stuff just with stipulations. Only new match is the singapore cane match.

Yeah thank goodness the WWE have stopped doing unprotected chair shots...

Might be a stupid question,,Are unprotected chair shots ones where they dont put their hands up to block it..

Sounds like a good line-up really. Surprised Batista and HBK hasnt been made bigger than it is. Maybe it's just me.

Out of pure curiosity, first blood matches: has there ever been an accidental cut in one of these matches that caused it to end unexpectedly?

I never said that did I?

Yeah and wrestlers also minimise the impact by making sure it hits the back of the head.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 1,148 ✭✭✭mehfesto2

Surely a blow to the back of the head is pretty dangerous. I mean you could go blind with a hit like that.

Yes. Or else the referee will count a pin instead, or allow a submission finish.

I think it happened in a Austin-Taker first blood match around nine years ago.

Not that it matters much and not that I care that much about the ECW Title:rolleyes: I think it would be good to give Tommy Dreamer a run with the title. He would be the only person in the match at ONS that it would make sense for to win other than Big Show. Punk has MITB. Morrison has Tag Title. And Chavo just doesnt work well with Kane because of the size difference.
Judging though what happened on ECW with a staredown with Big Show and Kane it could mean another great match with them..I hope thats not the case:mad:

Im actually looking forward to this PPV I must say.The first ONS PPV was the event of the year for me and there are some promising looking match ups this year.
Then again it could turn out to be total bull spit.Ho Hum,will just have to wait n see I guess.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 15,006 ✭✭✭✭callaway92

This is 1000% different to the original ONS so you cant compare. The original was the Original ECW superstars face off against eachother only with no non-ECW superstars wrestling. this is a WWE event with all WWE wrestlers. I think it might be good but willl hardly be PPV of this year and will definetaly not be as good or even half as good as the first 2 ONS events

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 67 ✭✭da ax murderer

ons looks pretty predictable to me, hhh over orton, hardy over umaga(its a falls count anywhere so expect hardy to do a huge bump off something, shawn over batista with possibly a jericho run in, big show new ecw champion and cena will beat jbl and look strong for his summer fued with hhh for the title

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 1,148 ✭✭✭mehfesto2

No chance of the title remaining vacant until the Draft, no?

It'd be a good way to throw the new movers from ECW/RAW straight into the mix. You could create a new face with an over-the-top rope elimination match for the #1 contenders spot. Great for a quick Kennedy push on SD, no?

It does look quite predictable, though. Can't see a feud developing between Umaga and Jeff, so you'd have to give it to Jeff for the momentum he'd get out of it.

Th only one I couldnt call is the Batista/HBK match.

How could they leave the title vacated..This is a no DQ match basically..

    Come on boys prediction time!
Edge vs Undertaker (TLC Match for World Heavyweight Championship)
The match of the night even if the stipulation that taker leaves the WWE kills any intrigue bout the result. Taker will win but hopefully Edge will look strong at the end.
WWE Champion Triple H vs. Randy Orton (Last Man Standing Match)
Super Hunter to retain. not looking forward to this that much, they have wrestled a lot and it always the same victor.
John Cena vs. JBL (First Blood Match)
Cena to win and the build up to him regaining the belt to start on Raw tomorrow night.
Shawn Michaels vs. Batista (Stretcher Match)
Batista is meant to be taking some time off, so I can see HBK snapping and taking him out big time. I must admit Y2J would have being a much better adversary tonight.
Jeff Hardy vs. Umaga (Falls Count Anywhere)
HI think the WWE will swerve us here, Umaga is rumored to be going to SD to challenge Taker, and so he needs creditable win before he goes. Cena, HBK, and HHH won’t put him over so I think Jeff will be jobbing tonight.
Big Show vs. John Morrison vs. Tommy Dreamer vs. Chavo Guerrero vs. CM Punk (Singapore Cane Match)
Oh lord, hopefully Punk or Morrison. I have a horrid feeling it will be Show though. His and Kane matches are normally muck
Melina vs. Beth Phoenix ("I Quit" Match)
    Beth end off.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 15,006 ✭✭✭✭callaway92

Edge vs Undertaker (TLC Match for World Heavyweight Championship)
Undertaker :( with hopefully some sort of a reinaction of WM 17 spear off ladder.

WWE Champion Triple H vs. Randy Orton (Last Man Standing Match)
HHH defo..dont think this will be good though

John Cena vs. JBL (First Blood Match)
    Cena in a boring match.

Shawn Michaels vs. Batista (Stretcher Match)
Michaels with an elbow drop onto Batista on the stretcher at some stage.Michaels to win.

Jeff Hardy vs. Umaga (Falls Count Anywhere)
Hardy to win with cool spot somewhere

Big Show vs. John Morrison vs. Tommy Dreamer vs. Chavo Guerrero vs. CM Punk (Singapore Cane Match)
I dont like him but I want TD to win, and I think he could..Definetaly not Punk or Morrison, and I doubt Chavo because that rivalry has gone now and they couldnt start it again.

Melina vs. Beth Phoenix ("I Quit" Match)
Glamazon to win, Hardcore match would have been better. I cant see any weapon being used. This will end with a submission because nearly every womens match recently was won with submission

Jericho will interfere in the strecher match.

They could both grab the belt and pull it down at the same time.

Neither wins, neither loses, title still vacant.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 15,006 ✭✭✭✭callaway92

I will give you odds of 80/1 that that wont happen...Minimum bet 20 euro

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,082 ✭✭✭✭chopperbyrne

I never said it's likely to happen, just that it's a way of still keeping the title vacant.

That seems likely.Batista is going to suffer serious(kayfabe)injuries so they can write him out while he goes on leave.

Edge is going to win thanks to the help of La Famila.

    HHH to win.

    Cena to win.

Big Show to win ECW title.

I have a feelig Punk might cash in his MITB shot as well.

big cranes by the Titantron. last year Cena FU'd Khali off them this year...

Hardy has to be the favourite for a bump though

that finish kinda sucked but it was an alright match, Jeff and Umaga really work well together.

really cant remember a PPV match Umaga has won though

    edit: nice shirt Foley :)

Big Show to win ECW title.

not till Night of champions, but yes thats the story they are building for Kane vs Big Show. just like they had on ECW this week id say this match will end with Kane coming out and having a stare down with new no.1 contender The Big Show

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,045 ✭✭✭Vince135792003

Fine opener. It'll be a long night with all the gimmick matches so they'll have to spread the hardcore spots around rather than throw them all in 1 match.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,732 ✭✭✭Reganio 2

Good start, Hardy sliding down the handrail was immense and the finish was always going to be like that it was just a question of where.

The I Quit Match is the best match of the night so far.

Loving the womens division these days, from both WWE and TNA.

Damn that looked sore at the end of that match!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 15,006 ✭✭✭✭callaway92

Very good match...They are 2 out of the 4 women in WWE that actually can wrestle...others being Natalya and Mickie J

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 474 ✭✭john concannon

Good finish. They put Beth over and made Melina look good for lasting in the submission for so long

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 15,006 ✭✭✭✭callaway92

I have a feeling this will be worst match of the night..300th post :)
